Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Manufacturing Engineer with expertise in extrusion machines to join our dynamic team at Addiction Foods NZ Ltd., a fast-growing pet food company. This role is critical in optimizing manufacturing processes, ensuring the efficient operation of extrusion equipment, and maintaining high-quality production standards. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of relevant experience in extrusion or a closely related manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Process Optimization:
  1. Develop, implement, and refine extrusion processes to maximize efficiency, minimize waste, and ensure product quality.
  2. Monitor and analyze production data to identify trends, address issues, and implement improvements.
Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
  1. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot extrusion machines to ensure continuous operation.
  2. Collaborate with maintenance teams to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
Quality Assurance:
  1. Work closely with the quality control team to ensure all products meet or exceed company and regulatory standards.
  2. Conduct regular testing and validation of extrusion processes to maintain consistent product specifications.
New Product Development Support:
  1. Assist in scaling up new formulations and recipes for pet food products.
  2. Provide technical input during the development phase to ensure manufacturability.
Continuous Improvement:
  1. Lead or support Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement initiatives.
  2. Identify opportunities for cost reduction and increased throughput without compromising quality.
Training and Collaboration:
  1. Train production staff on the operation and safety of extrusion equipment.
  2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, maintenance, and production, to meet organizational goals.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with extrusion machines in a manufacturing environment (preferably in the pet food, food, or feed industry).
  3. Strong knowledge of extrusion processes, machinery, and related technologies.
  4. Proficiency in CAD software and manufacturing process simulation tools is a plus.
  5. Demonstrated experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
  6. Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving production issues.
  7. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with team members across various levels.
  8. Familiarity with safety and quality standards, such as ISO, HACCP, or GMP, is highly desirable.

Work Environment:

This role requires working in a manufacturing plant environment with exposure to machinery noise, temperature variations, and raw materials. Periodic physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting, may be required.
