Our mandate is to identify and appoint a Compliance Counsel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Our business partner is a multi-billion dollar, high profile company who offers a range of products and services across the manufacturing sector.

Reporting to the Regional Head of Corporate Compliance based in Singapore, the Compliance Counsel will be a part of the SEA Compliance team and supporting with the compliance program for the regional group, with a focus on Malaysia. The role will also include monitoring and reporting the results of the Company's compliance/ethics efforts, as well as providing guidance to employees in the region, including senior management, on matters relating to compliance. The ideal candidate will have a high degree of professional ethics, be assertive with strong communication skills, and is an independent, team-oriented individual who can collaborate effectively.

Candidates we are interested to speak with will be responsible for the following:

  1. Advice and Expertise
    Provide compliance and organisational advice to management and associates on compliance topics.
  2. Understand, and keep abreast of changes to, relevant local laws and regulations.
  3. Implement local policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  4. Cooperate and liaise with government authorities and, where necessary, instruct and manage external legal counsel.

Monitoring and Control

  1. Review and monitor the compliance management system to ensure it meets the requirements under local laws.
  2. Conduct internal investigations into potential violations of internal regulations or external laws, including recommending appropriate sanctions, disciplinary measures, or other consequences, and, if necessary, implementation of sanctions and measures.
  3. Monitor and review effectiveness of compliance program.

Compliance Risk Management

  1. Identify and analyse compliance risks, with a focus on anti-corruption and anti-bribery, as well as carrying out measures to monitor and mitigate risks, for example third-party due diligence, risk assessments and audits.
  2. Support local management to define/promote compliance goals on anti-corruption and compliance culture.
  3. Support further development of the compliance management system.

Training/Communication

  1. Design and conduct training on compliance topics.
  2. Design and implement programs and initiatives to ensure awareness of compliance organization and topics, both internally and externally.
  3. Ensure effective communication of compliance topics in general.

General

  1. Must be able to travel to various locations in Malaysia.
  2. Undertake duties as and when assigned by Regional Head of Corporate Compliance.
Requirements
  1. Degree in Finance, Commerce, Business or Law.
  2. Minimum 5 years of experience in legal, compliance, ethics, internal investigations, internal audit, and/or other similar governance areas in a multi-national company or Audi / Professional Services Firm.
  3. Sound knowledge of the regulations and laws relating to anti-corruption and anti-bribery, particularly the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act.
  4. Fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia and the ability to write clearly and concisely.
  5. Excellent integrity and value-driven.
  6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  7. Solid time management and organisational skills. Ability to work under pressure and to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic corporate environment.
  8. Robust personality, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to communicate professionally with all levels within the organization.
  9. Self-starter and exhibits confidence and comfort with decision-making, including disagreement with other stakeholders.
  10. Independent, team-oriented professional who can collaborate effectively.
  11. Willingness to travel.
