General Manager - Banking Operations.
Based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
Package - circa AUD$200,000 + relocation, accommodation, motor vehicle, medical insurance, club memberships, annual return flight to point of hire and 5 weeks annual leave.

We are pleased to be partnering with our client, an emerging bank in the pacific, to recruit a General Manager for their Banking Operations. This leading banking and financial institution is based in Papua New Guinea, South Pacific. This esteemed organization is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic professional to take on the role ofGeneral Manager - Banking Operations (GM Operations). This pivotal position is designed to ensure the bank achieves its vision of becoming the most dynamic, progressive, and accessible financial services organization in the Pacific.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management
- Achieve and maintain a total ATM uptime of 95% or above to drive revenue and profitability.
- Support the growth of digital revenue through the cards channel by developing and meeting annual production targets.
- Leverage technology to drive sustainable and profitable growth.
- Implement strategies to improve productivity, cost discipline, and overall financial performance.
- Develop and enforce effective first-line-of-defense (FLOD) programs to minimize financial losses for both the bank and its customers.
- Maintain positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure high levels of ATM reliability and availability.
- Collaborate with Business Unit Heads to support branches and back-office teams in developing processes and controls that safeguard funds and comply with AML/CTF regulations.
- Manage relationships with customers, regulators, and correspondent banks to enhance the customer experience and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Work with branches to drive customer satisfaction and a positive banking experience.
- Represent the bank in interactions with external stakeholders and internal business units such as ICT, compliance, and executive committees.
- Oversee and address potential risks related to ATMs and cards, working with technology teams to implement mitigation plans and document processes for audit purposes.
- Ensure all operations comply with the bank's policies, procedures, standards, and external regulatory requirements.
- Oversee operational risk registers and treatment plans to meet audit expectations and timelines.
- Work closely with Business Unit Heads to develop risk triggers, escalation processes, and compliance mechanisms.
- Uphold the company's code of conduct and core values by setting high ethical standards.
- Lead initiatives that challenge conventional thinking, encourage dialogue, and foster growth.
- Effectively manage staff concerns and create a positive work environment.
- Monitor and track the performance of operations teams against KPIs, implementing strategies for continuous improvement.
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to Business Unit Heads, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
- Develop and implement succession strategies and career development pathways for the Operations team.
- Recruit and retain top talent to support the bank's growth objectives.
- Address performance issues in consultation with People & Culture, ensuring adherence to guidelines.
- Promote a risk management culture through leadership, discussions, and interactions with staff.

Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- Advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in banking operations, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
- Proven track record in managing complex operations, regulatory compliance, and technology-driven projects.
- Experience in international banking is highly desirable.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Strategic thinker with a focus on operational excellence.
