Database Administrator

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Installing and configuring database systems, patches and upgrades
- Implementing new databases and associated objects
- Monitoring and reporting on database service availability
- Managing the development, testing and production database environments
- Conducting all aspects of capacity planning, performance monitoring and tuning of relational databases.
- Implementing and auditing of database security.
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures governing corporate database operations and related issues.
- Perform backup and recovery of corporate databases and assist with other operational administration of data backups and data recovery within the infrastructure team.
- Provide database support to operations team 24*7.
- Incident, change and problem management
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- 3-5+ years of experience with corporate databases coupled with tertiary qualifications in Computer Science or a related discipline.
- IBM DB2 certifications V11.1 Fundamentals (Beginner) and DB2 V11.1 Linux, Unix and Windows (Intermediate).
- Experienced in upgrades of IBM DB2 from V9.7 to V11.1 and V10.5 to V11.1
- Experienced in IBM DB2 encryption, rollout and planning.
- Experienced in IBM DB2 access control policy, implementation and best practices.
- Experienced in all aspects of IBM DB2 High Availability (HADR) with Corosync-Pacemaker
- Experience and qualifications in other major corporate databases such as Oracle and SQL server, MY SQL and POSTGRESQL
- Well-developed skills in scripting such BASH, PYTHON, PHP and PL/SQL
- Well-developed skills in one or more major operating system platforms such as, RHEL (Red Hat Linux), Unix, and Windows
- Good understanding of the business information needs of the organisation
- Effective trouble-shooter
- Excellent communication skills
- Experienced with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix or other recognized industry monitoring tools
- Strong understanding of incident, problem and change management (ITIL)
- Ability to manage and prioritize workloads
- Team player with excellent communication skills
- Good communication and collaboration skills
