**JOB POSITION: PET CARE SPECIALIST**

Pet care specialist look after the day-to-day care of pets, in a variety of different settings, under supervision. At Diana Cat Studio, the specialization is cats.

Pet care specialists have more direct contact with the cats than any other person within the organization. It is, therefore, a very important role in the welfare of cats, and a job only for those who genuinely love cats and are passionate.

**THE JOB AND WHAT'S INVOLVED**

The tasks are varied and may include:

- Grooming animals with a suitable package, making sure they are at least 99% clean and stress-less during the process.
- Cleaning out and disinfecting the living, playing, and sleeping areas and all their accessories including litter box and toys.
- Preparing food, including any special diets needed, and feeding the animals.
- Taking cats to the playroom for playtime and monitoring them during playtime.
- Checking for signs of illness or distress in the animals.
- Look after the cats and call the vet if needed.
- Giving cats medicine or tablets and treating them for fleas or parasites.
- Actively monitor cats during group or individual activities. Monitor cats’ body language and demeanor for signs of aggression and/or fearfulness towards other cats or humans.
- React promptly and in a safe manner to situations involving cat or human safety.
- Take cat photos and/or videos to be updated to their parents and to be uploaded on social media for the purpose of marketing and educating.
- Giving updates to parents regarding their cat's doing during boarding and grooming.
- Advising owners or customers on animal care with the right knowledge to help them, not merely for sales.
- Showing cats available for adoption to possible new owners.
- Make sure cabins and cats are properly numbered and identified and that personal property (toys, treats, blankets, leashes) are stored in the proper area and identified.
- Maintaining and monitoring cat records, taking bookings, dealing with payments, and handling enquiries.
- Answering questions and queries from visitors.
- Assisting team leader, manager, or any other area, as needed.

**SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALITIES NEEDED**

A pet care specialist should:

- Be able to handle cats firmly but gently.
- Have empathy with both cats and people.
- Have the ability to manage time effectively.
- Enjoy working without a fan or air conditioner (especially while grooming cats with parasites, in order not to make the cat cold and not to make the parasites on the shaved hair fly around the area).
- Have excellent communication skills with both colleagues and customers.
- Have a good awareness of health and safety within the workplace.
- Have the ability to work on their own as well as part of a team.
- Be confident dealing with a range of different cat temperaments.
- Have good administration skills.
- Have excellent observation skills.
- Demonstrate good dependability.
- Demonstrate initiative in all areas of performance.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines.

**EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING**

Having experience working in pet care service industry is a bonus, but there are no set compulsory academic requirements or certifications for this role. A genuine concern and real enthusiasm for the welfare of cats is highly essential, together with a willingness and high interest to learn about general cat care.

**SALARY AND REWARDS**

Salary starts from RM1800 and can be up to RM2200 depending on the performer's working attitude, skills, personal qualities, and overall performance. Bonuses will be rewarded for those who excel their KPI and the type of reward can be altered from time to time according to company and team's growth.
