**How can you make a difference?**
- 1. Evidence generation, situation analysis and technical guidance to staff and programme partners on climate and environmental risks and solutions for children
- Support evidence generation activities, research and situation analyses to enhance understanding on the impact of climate change and environmental degradation on children in Malaysia, and child-sensitive climate and environmental actions in Malaysia across different sectors, such as education, child protection and social policy programmes.
- Identify, capture, synthesize and share lessons learned and best practices for protecting children from climate change and environmental risk globally and locally.
- Support the development of strategic UNICEF position papers, information materials, internal briefing notes, and knowledge on climate and environment.
- Participate in relevant United Nations and development partners’ climate change and environment working groups to ensure linkages/ knowledge exchange with regional and global stakeholders.
2. Child-sensitive climate, environment and disaster risk reduction & recovery policy and action, advocacy and partnership development
- Build and sustain close working partnerships with government counterparts and national stakeholders to advance UNICEF Malaysia’s climate, environment and disaster risk reduction & recovery work.
- Identify and build strategic partnerships and networks with youth organisations and environmental organisations that champion inclusive participation of young people in climate action and environmental sustainability.
- Support communication, dissemination of evidence, and awareness-raising regarding climate change and child rights in Malaysia and provide grounded inputs into key national climate, environment and disaster risk reduction & recovery policy dialogues.
- Support the development of platforms and opportunities that empower children and youth as agents of change with an active role in addressing the climate crisis by exercising their views, opinions and concerns, identifying and working on solutions, and promoting environmentally sustainable lifestyles.
- Identify funding opportunities and support UNICEF programmes in accessing climate & environment-related funding from existing and emerging sources, including public private partnerships, innovative climate finance and leveraging of non-financial contributions for climate aims.
- Support with the implementation of advocacy strategies and initiatives, including developing inclusive key messages and products for advocacy purposes.
3. Effective management and coordination support for climate & environment programme development and implementation
- Provide support towards the implementation, monitoring and coordination of programmes under UNICEF Malaysia’s Climate and Environment portfolio, including the Air Quality Monitoring in Schools (AQUAMS) programme, the MyUNICEF Impact Challenge, the Youth Environment Living Labs (YELL) joint UNDP-UNICEF programme, the Youth Climate Champions programme, community-based disaster resilience and preparedness, innovation and youth engagement in climate action programmes.
- Contribute to the further development, design and management of UNICEF Malaysia’s climate and environment programme, particularly on interventions to build climate of children and youth; and strengthening of climate-resilient social services, taking advantage of new strategic programming opportunities.
- Coordinate with Implementing Partners to ensure timely and quality submission of work plans, financial and substantive reports in line with UNICEF’s internal requirements.
- Conduct regular programme field visits and surveys and exchange information with partners/stakeholders to assess progress and provide technical support.
