Job Summary

The role is responsible for overseeing a broad range of legal and compliance functions to safeguard the company's interests and ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies. Key duties include drafting, reviewing, and managing commercial agreements and legal documents; conducting legal research to provide timely and accurate advice to management; and developing policies that strengthen compliance and risk management practices. The position also supports dispute resolution processes, including litigation, mediation, and arbitration, while serving as the main liaison with the Group Legal Department, external legal counsel, and internal stakeholders. Additionally, the role maintains strict control over legal documentation and delivers training to management and employees to promote legal awareness and best practices across the organization.

Principal Accountabilities

  1. Contract and document management -
    Draft, review, and amend commercial agreements, legal documents, and other correspondence to ensure legal soundness and compliance with laws and company policies.
  2. Legal research and advice -
    Conduct legal research to stay updated on new laws and regulations and advise management on potential legal issues and risks.
  3. Compliance and risk management -
    Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with laws and regulations and protect the company's legal interests.
  4. Dispute resolution -
    Manage and coordinate legal matters, including handling disputes, litigation, mediation, and arbitration.
  5. Liaison -
    Act as a liaison with Group Legal Department, external legal counsels and other departments to ensure legal compliance and manage risk.
  6. Document control -
    Serve as the custodian of all legal documents and ensure proper filing.
  7. Training -
    Conduct training sessions for management and staff on legal compliance and best practices, particularly in areas like employment law.

Job Specification:

  1. Education -
    Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognised university.
  2. Professional qualifications -
    Admission to the Malaysian Bar is often an advantage or a prerequisite.
  3. Experience -
    Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant legal experience, with a preference for corporate and in-house roles.
  4. Skills -
    Strong drafting skills, excellent communication abilities (written and verbal), and the ability to manage multiple legal matters effectively.
