Engineering Manager

I. Job Summary

The Engineering Manager is a pivotal leadership role responsible for directing and executing all engineering, maintenance, and reliability functions within the high-speed 2-piece aluminium can manufacturing facility. The core objective is to ensure the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of all production assets and plant infrastructure, driving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and upholding stringent safety, quality, and environmental compliance standards.

II. Key Responsibilities

1.    Leadership and Team Management

• Team Development: Lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team, including Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, fostering their professional growth and technical capability.
• Culture: Foster a robust culture of safety, reliability, accountability, and continuous improvement within the engineering and maintenance teams.
• Safety Leadership: Ensure all team activities prioritize safety and strictly comply with internal EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) and local statutory regulations.

2. Maintenance and Reliability

• Program Oversight: Oversee and enhance the Preventive (PM) and Predictive (PdM) maintenance programs to ensure high equipment reliability and achieve maximum production uptime.
• Downtime Minimization: Strategically manage maintenance execution to minimize unscheduled downtime and lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for complex and chronic equipment issues.
• Technical Troubleshooting: Lead and provide expertise in troubleshooting complex equipment issues specific to the manufacturing of 2-piece aluminium cans.
• Budget & Inventory Control: Monitor and control maintenance budgets, manage spare parts inventory (especially for critical can-making components), and track maintenance spending to ensure cost-effective operations.
• Production Support: Actively support Production teams in troubleshooting and resolving day-to-day process and equipment issues to maintain output quality and speed.

3. Project Management and Capital Expenditure (CAPEX)

• Capital Projects: Manage all capital projects, including equipment upgrades, installation of new product sizes/tooling, and replacing obsolete equipment.
• Project Lifecycle: Develop detailed project scopes, budgets, and timelines, and ensure the successful installation, commissioning, and handover of equipment, including managing external contractors and vendors.
• Sustainability Goals: Collaborate with regional teams to execute projects and improvement processes aimed at achieving company sustainability goals (e.g., energy reduction, material efficiency).

4. Process Improvement and Efficiency

• Improvement Solutions: Identify and implement strategic engineering solutions to improve overall efficiency, reduce spoilage/waste, reduce material and energy consumption, and enhance finished product quality.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the Production and Quality teams to optimize manufacturing processes and ensure product integrity complies with Food Grade Standards.

5. Compliance, Safety, and Quality

• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all engineering activities and plant modifications comply with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company quality policies (e.g., ISO, HACCP).
• Technical Support: Serve as the primary technical expert on the 2-piece aluminium manufacturing process, collaborating with the regional technical support team to resolve highly complex equipment and process issues.
• Audits: Support and facilitate internal and external audits and regulatory inspections as required.

III. Qualifications and Experience

Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

Experience: Minimum 10 years of progressive engineering experience in the manufacturing industry, with at least 5 years in a proven leadership/management capacity.

Industry Specificity (Highly Advantageous): Proven, in-depth technical knowledge and experience with metal packaging or aluminium forming, specifically 2-piece cans manufacturing equipment (e.g., body makers, trimmers, decorators, neckers, cuppers, and reformers).

Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of maintenance best practices, CMMS, PLC systems, SCADA, and high-speed automation/motion control.

Core Competencies: Excellent problem-solving, communication (written and verbal), leadership, and project management skills.
