Editorial & Publishing Executive (Islamic & KAFA Education)

We are seeking a creative, detail-oriented, and organized Editorial & Publishing Executive to join our Learning and Innovation Department at EDESS Education Development and Solutions Specialist Sdn Bhd.

This role focuses on developing, editing, and publishing Islamic and KAFA educational materials, including books, learning modules, and classroom/self-learning aids. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in Islamic or KAFA education, is excellent in Jawi, and enjoys working collaboratively with freelance writers, designers, and education experts to produce impactful learning resources.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's Degree in Islamic Studies, Education, Publishing, or related field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in education publishing, content development, or Islamic education fields.
• Excellent command of Jawi and Bahasa Melayu — able to read, write, proofread, and edit Jawi text accurately.
• Strong editorial, writing, and proofreading skills in Bahasa Melayu (English and Arabic are advantages).
• Good understanding of KAFA curriculum, JAKIM standards, and Islamic education pedagogy.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and basic layout tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Acrobat).
• Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills.
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects and work effectively with writers, designers, and vendors.
• High attention to detail, creativity, and commitment to quality.
• Team-oriented, ethical, and culturally sensitive personality.
• Experience with e-book or digital publishing is an added advantage.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Editorial & Content Development

• Develop, edit, and proofread KAFA and Islamic learning materials (books, worksheets, activity guides, etc.) including Jawi-based text and transliteration.
• Ensure all content aligns with curriculum standards and Islamic principles.
• Conduct research and fact-checking to ensure content accuracy and linguistic correctness in both Rumi and Jawi.
• Collaborate with the design team to create visually engaging and student-friendly Jawi and Rumi materials.
• Maintain editorial quality and consistency across all publications.

Coordination & Workflow Management

• Coordinate with freelance writers, illustrators, and subject experts.
• Provide editorial guidance, review drafts, and ensure timely delivery.
• Liaise with internal teams (design, marketing, operations) to synchronize project schedules.
• Manage and organize content archives, documentation, and version control.

Publishing & Production

• Oversee the end-to-end publishing process, including layout, printing, and proofreading.
• Liaise with printers, vendors, and distributors for quotations and production follow-up.
• Manage ISBN registration, copyright, and publishing documentation.
• Support the development of digital or online versions of materials.

Quality & Innovation

• Uphold high editorial standards and ensure content compliance with Islamic guidelines.
• Collaborate with educators and subject experts for content validation.
• Contribute to new ideas and product innovations under EDESS's KAFA For All brand.
• Support internal reviews, proposals, and documentation for project improvement.
