POSITION SUMMARY:

  1. The Fertility Nurse is focus on assisting doctors in Fertility Unit and responsible for the assessment of care needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care to achieve patient safety and customer satisfaction in the unit.

  2. This position reports directly to the Head of Unit

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist doctors with ART procedure such as ovum pick-up (OPU), embryo transfer, testicular sperm aspiration (TESA), percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration (PESA) and intrauterine insemination (IUI).

  2. Assist in Abdominal & Transvaginal Scan for ART procedures.

  3. Patient preparation for ART procedures.

  4. Reviews the patient understands of the procedure and complication involves and checks for informed consent.

  5. Conduct patient education and basic care for fertility cycles and self-administration of fertility drugs.

  6. Maintains good records for emergency drugs, equipment, and supplies.

  7. Involved in the department's Quality Improvement Activities (QIA).

  8. Assists in educational programs; CME when required.

  9. Establishes, monitor and record the inventory of patient care supplies, disposable item etc. Thereby maintaining facility approved levels.

  10. To take reasonable care at workplace for the safety of oneself, others and to comply with any instruction or measure on occupational safety, health and environment as required. Report all accidents / incidents and hazard to the superior and complete the Incident Report Form for each accident / incident.

  11. To perform other related duties as assigned.

  12. Complete patient's records both written and computerized in accordance with department policies.

  13. Ensure the correct guidelines are followed in the labelling and transportation of specimens to avoid mistakes.

  14. Monitor disposable items and pharmacy stock. To ensure that used items are charged and supplies are adequate.

  15. Maintain custody of controlled drugs, checking, recording and witnessing administration of drugs in accordance with hospital policy. Reports any discrepancy to the Head of Unit for further action.

  16. Maintains competence in the safe use of necessary equipment Ensure equipment is in good working order. Report equipment malfunction and facilities issues to the Head of Unit.

  17. To demonstrate good clinical practice at all times and to be accountable for own actions.

  18. Maintains work operations by following policies and procedures as guidelines to avoid mistakes

  19. Maintain an environment which prevents spread of infection. Always refer infection control policy as a guideline.

  20. Communicate with patients, relatives and staff in an open, friendly, clear, effective and helpful manner.

  21. Maintain patient confidentiality and protect their right to privacy.

  22. Attend Company/team staff meetings where possible.

  23. Attend all mandatory training sessions for fire, patient handling, etc.

  24. Undertake additional courses to promote personal and professional development.

  25. Report immediately, any complaints to the Head of Unit on duty and complete all relevant documentation.

  26. Maintain adequate communications with, and co-operate with, other units and Departments, in the care and treatment of patients.

  27. Willing to work overtime as instructed.

  28. Always work as a team to provide the best treatment for patients.

  29. Updates job know knowledge by participating in every internal and external training organized by the company e.g. CNE and CME classes.

Report all accidents / incidents, hazard to the superior, and complete the Incident Report Form for each accident / incident.

  31. To perform other related duties as assigned by Head of Unit.
