Key Responsibilities

  1. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.1. Carries out duties according to statutory competencies, appropriate extended role and

maintains codes of professional conduct.

1.2. Manages the total nursing care of patients, individualised needs as necessary, within the

agreed nursing HOP and SI, codes of nursing and religious practises.

1.3. Assists doctors with patient examination and procedures and ensures doctor's orders are

carried out.

1.4. Develops clinical competency in the chosen specialty.

1.5. Communicates well on patient status, maintaining accurate and legible nursing records and

other documents.

1.6. Prepares Nursing Care Plans and implements and evaluates nursing care as required.

1.7. Competent in using all equipment available in the unit.

1.8. Maintain and ensure medical equipment is working and functioning correctly at all times.

1.9. Receives and handover report of every patient.

1.10. Transfer and transport patient safely to other services or wards when required.

1.11. Assist with admission procedures and discharged of patients, including making appointments

with the specialist clinic if necessary.

1.12. Adopts a caring approach to patients and relatives and communicates effectively.

1.13. Promotes and maintain a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients.

1.14. Maintain a safe environment for visitors and staff.

1.15. Ensures patient safety always which includes the safe custody of patient valuables.

1.16. Provides Patient Family education.

1.17. Accountable for professional actions during each span of duty.

1.18. Interacts well with other members of the health care team and practises teamwork for the

best interests of the patient.

1.19. Has a positive attitude towards nursing, her work place and her colleagues.

1.20. Maintains a professional attitude at the workplace and towards patients.

1.21. Participate in Quality Assurance programmes and Quality Improvement activities.

1.22. Performs other appropriate tasks assigned within the realm of the employee's knowledge,

skills and abilities.

1.23. Develops self to become fully competent in clinical and managerial skills.

1.24. Enable freedom of choice in decision making amongst staff members of the unit.

1.25. Responsible for meeting unit goals and objectives.

1.26. To perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Management from time to time.

2 EDUCATION & PROFESSIONALISM

2.1. Responsible for own learning needs and professional development.

2.2. Attending appropriate study programmes, In-service training and mandatory updates eg. Fire

2.3. Training, CPR etc.

2.4. Guides, supports and trains all new and junior staff.

2.5. Responsible for the continuing clinical and professional; development of staff

  1. ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1 To assist in Risk and Quality activities of the unit to enhance controls.

3.2 To assist in guiding and mentoring the junior nurses.

3.3 To be engaged in the department and hospital quality indicator.

3.4 To assist the ward nursing management team in some managerial work like roster and

staffing needs for smooth running of the unit.

3.5 To be responsible for the administration of the hospital after normal working hours and on

weekends and public holidays as rostered.

3.6 To attend / conduct meetings that may be assigned by management from time to time.

Qualification and Experience

  • Diploma in Nursing / Bachelor of Nursing

  • State Registered Nurse (SRN) as recognized by the Nursing Board Malaysia

  • Minimum Experience – 5 years as Staff Nurse

  • Preferably with relevant Post Basic.

  • Good working knowledge of nursing theories, norms, practices and statutory requirements.

  • Good Interpersonal and communication skills

  • Able to actively participate and lead in continuous nursing education program.

  • Able to coach and groom junior staff within the unit.

  • To carry out duties as preceptor when appointed.

  • Able to work with all levels of staff

  • Able to work under stressful environment

  • Ready to be a Good Role Model

  • Willing to be deployed

  • To obtain a valid Annual Practising Certificate (APC) and BLS within 6 months of employment.
