Position Summary

The Agriculture Officer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising agricultural activities to ensure optimal productivity and sustainable farm management. The role involves overseeing crop production, soil management, pest control, irrigation systems, and ensuring compliance with agricultural regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and manage day-to-day farm operations including planting, irrigation, fertilization, and harvesting.
  • Monitor crop growth, soil condition, and pest activity to ensure healthy production.
  • Conduct soil and crop analysis to improve yield and sustainability.
  • Implement modern farming techniques and sustainable agricultural practices.
  • Supervise farm workers and provide guidance on agricultural procedures.
  • Manage farm budgets, inventory, and procurement of equipment or raw materials.
  • Maintain records of crop cycles, inputs used, and production yields.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Liaise with agricultural agencies, suppliers, and buyers.
  • Conduct research or trials for new seed varieties or technologies.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of modern farming practices, irrigation systems, and pest management.
  • Strong problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Good communication and leadership abilities.
  • Physically fit and willing to work in outdoor or rural environments.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, farm management software is an advantage).

Working Conditions

  • Work may involve field visits, exposure to weather conditions, and interaction with farm workers or suppliers.
  • Travel may be required to monitor off-site farms or attend agricultural programs.
