Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Kuala Lumpur for a Data Center Support (Smart Hands) at Volkswagen Group Malaysia. The Data Center Support specialist will be responsible for troubleshooting hardware and software issues, managing data center operations, ensuring network connectivity, and supporting IT infrastructure. Daily tasks include monitoring systems, maintaining equipment, responding to technical incidents, and collaborating with other IT teams to ensure seamless operations.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Hardware & Cabling

  2. Install, remove, and replace data center equipment (servers, storage, network devices, hard drives, power units).

  3. Perform structured cabling (copper and fiber), labeling, patching, and ensuring compliance with cabling standards.

  4. Carry out power checks, rack allocation, and physical installation of infrastructure hardware.

  5. Operational Support

  6. Act as on-site "smart hands" for remote teams (hardware swaps, LED checks, device reboots, cabling verification).

  7. Support troubleshooting and escalate issues to Group IT teams.

  8. Monitor equipment status, rack utilization, and environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, alarms).

  9. Documentation & Processes

  10. Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation (using TCM or equivalent tools).

  11. Follow ITIL-based processes for incident handling, change requests, and problem reporting.

  12. Ensure all installation and maintenance activities are logged and traceable.

  13. Coordination & Logistics

  14. Organize shipping and receiving of IT components.

  15. Liaise with service providers (e.g., NTT Singapore) for data center-related activities.

  16. Communicate effectively with colleagues in Wolfsburg, Germany.

  17. Travel & Flexibility

  18. Willingness to travel frequently to Singapore and occasionally to Germany for training, projects, and

  19. support.
  20. Provide support during critical infrastructure projects or incident escalations outside normal hours if
  21. required.
  22. Build strong relationships with the stakeholders, fostering trust and promoting collaboration.
  23. Handle confidential matters with discretion

Qualifications

  • Diploma (or equivalent) in IT, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
  • Proficiency in IT software and Microsoft product such as Office365 and Power BI
  • Strong understanding of computing systems, network and ITIL best practices
  • Good English communication skills (written and spoken); German language is a strong plus
  • 2–4 years of hands-on experience in data center operations or IT infrastructure support
  • Proven experience in hardware installation, structured cabling, and data center support activities
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and an ethical mindset
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
