Job Summary
The Process Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining manufacturing processes for cable harness production. This role plays a key part in improving process capability, efficiency, and product quality through the implementation of best practices and continuous improvement initiatives. Depending on experience level, responsibilities may range from learning and supporting daily process activities to leading improvements, automation, and cross-functional projects. The Process Engineer will also support New Product Introduction (NPI), production ramp-up, and equipment/tooling setup/preventive maintenance to ensure operational excellence.
Job Description:
Design and implement efficient process flows, standard work instructions, and visual guides for cable harness assembly.
Support NPI, First Article (FA), and Mass Production (MP) by establishing process parameters, production lines, tooling, and jigs/fixtures.
Troubleshoot daily manufacturing issues related to processes, tools, fixtures, and equipment.
Perform time studies, maintain accurate product cycle times, update master data, and ensure process cost control.
Collaborate with Quality and Maintenance teams to reduce defects, improve equipment uptime, and implement robust corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Support process validation and qualification for new product transfers and ensure compliance with technical and quality specifications.
Maintain accurate process documentation and provide technical support to production teams.
Document all tooling, jigs/fixtures in Master record in SharePoint.
Perform other tasks as assigned by the Engineering Manager or management team.
Additional Responsibilities (Fresh Graduates / Junior Level):
- Learn and apply process engineering methodologies (Lean basics, PFMEA, time/motion studies, etc.).
- Assist in equipment setup, process documentation, and line balancing.
- Support data collection and reporting on process performance.
- Participate in improvement projects under guidance from senior engineers.
- Gain exposure to MRP systems and process master data management.
Additional Responsibilities (Senior Level):
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement projects using Lean, Kaizen, or equivalent methodologies.
- Own and optimize process cost, cycle time, and yield performance (e.g DC wire).
- Conduct detailed Process FMEA and establish appropriate process controls.
- Lead process validation, qualification, and audits for NPI and product transfers.
- Drive process automation, digitalization, and system improvements (MRP integrations, reporting dashboards).
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and supervision to technicians, assistant engineers, and junior engineers.
- Benchmark best practices in process engineering and recommend adoption for continuous improvement.
Education & Experience (entry level):
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Strong willingness to learn process engineering and manufacturing methodologies.
Basic knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, problem-solving, and process analysis tools.
- Internship or academic project exposure in manufacturing/production is a plus.
Education & Experience (senior level):
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Master's preferred).
Minimum 5 years of experience in process engineering or manufacturing support.
Hands-on experience in design validation, NPI implementation, or project management.
- Prior background in Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) or cable harness assembly is strongly preferred.
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, and process improvement tools.
- Familiarity with MRP systems is an advantage.
Knowledge/Skills:
Strong analytical thinking and troubleshooting capability in a manufacturing environment.
Proficient in process documentation, layout planning, time/motion studies, and cycle time analysis.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across departments.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Self-driven, proactive, and detail-oriented mindset.
