ROLE PURPOSE

The Assistant Curator assists the Curator in maintaining and enhancing the Islamic Finance Gallery, contributing to an impactful and interactive learning environment. This includes assisting in curating temporary exhibitions, contributing to museum programs related to galleries and exhibitions, and helping foster a deeper understanding of Malaysia's economic progress and financial landscape development. Additionally, the role includes designing and developing creative materials across various mediums, for both corporate and museum settings aligned with the departments and the Bank's goals.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
 

Curatorial Services

1. Gallery Management and Collection Development

  • Gallery Operations: Ensure the Islamic Finance Gallery is well maintained to a high standard which includes conducting periodic gallery inspections, assessing gallery maintenance requirements, and identifying opportunities for gallery improvements.
  • Gallery Improvement Works: Plan, seek approval, develop, and assist in overseeing the execution of gallery improvement work projects in the gallery to enrich the audience takeaways (i.e. research, content development, liaising with the advisory panel, exhibit design, user acceptance test, etc.).
  • Content Development and Acquisition: Conduct continuous research on the materials for the
  • gallery. Identify and propose the acquisition of artifacts/archival documents associated with
  • Islamic Finance Gallery to enhance the credibility of the gallery.

2. Temporary Exhibitions Development

  • Exhibition Project Management: Work closely with the exhibition team to plan and organize temporary exhibitions, from concept to implementation. Assist to create and manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for each exhibition. Liaise with various sections including marketing, education, and events, to ensure seamless execution of exhibitions.
  • Exhibition Concept Research: Undertake content research to create educational and captivating exhibitions, including publication. Conduct design research and present concept proposals, propose methods for display, and design themes.
  • Exhibition Development: Plan and develop content for temporary exhibitions and publications. (i.e. Research materials, liaising with relevant institutions, assisting in loaning/acquiring artifacts and archival documents, drafting exhibition content, undertaking exhibition design work, translating content, assisting in conducting user acceptance tests to ensure successful implementation)

3. Public engagement

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute public programmes and events for galleries and temporary exhibitions including gallery walk-throughs, providing talks, workshops, and participating in media interviews.
  • Assist the curator in contributing and participating in programmes and events organised by other sections or departments which require curatorial services and creative design work.
  • Plan and conduct exhibit, exhibition and programmes evaluations to assess the success of each exhibition and gather feedback from visitors. Use data and feedback to continually improve the quality and impact of future exhibits and temporary exhibitions.

OPTIONAL: Creative Services
4. Corporate Collaterals Development: Plan, coordinate, and develop corporate collateral requirements and design work encompassing the Corporate Diary, Corporate Greeting Cards and Cash Packet.

5. Creative Design Work: Undertake design work, establish requirements, and execute designs for departmental and/or Bankwide collaterals and merchandise for Museum Shop. Operational Efficiency and Effectiveness

6. Business Plan and Budget Management: Assist in proposing an annual business plan for the Curatorial, Creative, Education, and Printing (CCEP) section, collaborating to align it with the department's goals and objectives. Additionally, plays a key role in managing the annual operating plan and planning and executing the monthly expenditure.

7. Procurement and Vendor Management: Liaise with the Centralised Procurement Department (CPD) on all procurement matters and assist in monitoring appointed vendors to ensure timely project completion. 

8. Risk Management: Propose appropriate measures to be taken before installing an exhibit to ensure proper compliance with relevant procedures such as OSHA and the safety of artifacts.

9. Audit and Process Improvement: Conduct an annual self-audit for Financial Galleries and propose any necessary process improvements for the section.

10. Networking, Learning & Development: To establish and maintain networks with other museums, cultural and learning institutes to keep abreast with the developments in the industry and closely monitor self-development to close the knowledge gap.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE 

Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Islamic Finance, economics, Finance, Accounting or equivalent or other relevant disciplines. A qualification in Museum Studies (Museology) / curriculum development and humanities would be advantageous.

Experience: 

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in the Museum/Economics/Banking/Finance industry. Working knowledge of exhibit/exhibition displays (both traditional and new media), along with an understanding of market surveys and audience research, would be advantageous.
