This is a 6-month fixed-term contract position, with a hard deadline for the upgrade project completion. For exceptional performance in this role and demonstrated expertise in other critical areas of our IT infrastructure, there is potential for conversion to a long-term, permanent employment contract.

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Windows Server/SQL Engineer to manage the technical deployment and configuration aspects of migrating our core financial application to a new, browser-based version. This critical enterprise system upgrade has a target completion date of March 2026. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with IIS deployments, MS SQL database management, and implementing Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) for Single Sign-On.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

The consultant will be responsible for the end-to-end technical deployment of the new browser-based application by the target deadline.

  • System Knowledge & Project Collaboration: Develop a working understanding of the current enterprise system's architecture and features, and collaborate closely with the internal business team to ensure all custom features, settings, and necessary data mappings are successfully ported over to the new release.
  • Database and Security Pre-work: Execute all mandatory SQL scripts on the enterprise application database, including running version checks and converting all deprecated NT Authenticated Logins (Windows Authentication) to common database logins before the main upgrade.
  • IIS Web Deployment: Manage the full deployment to the IIS Web Server, including stopping/starting the application pool, backing up the existing application folder, deleting the old contents, and copying the new client files into the server root.
  • Configuration Management: Reapply all manual modifications to the application's configuration files ) and any custom translation/localization files after the new client files are deployed.
  • Data and Template Migration: Oversee the migration of existing linked document storage from the old File System model to the Database storage model, and manage the redevelopment of proprietary report/cover page templates into the new FlexCel-based template engine.
  • Project Completion: Ensure the large-scale deployment is completed within the defined timeframe, working effectively with remote vendors, and adhering to all security and operational standards.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of progressive experience in DevOps, Windows Server Engineering, or Systems Administration.

  • Technical Expertise:

  • Expert knowledge of IIS Web Server deployments and application pool management in a production environment.

  • Strong proficiency in MS SQL Server for running administrative scripts, database maintenance, and data migration tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience configuring and managing Single Sign-On (SSO) using Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).
  • Experience in completing large-scale deployments/upgrades of enterprise systems.

  • Communication and Documentation:

  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills for technical documentation and collaboration with remote vendors.

  • Proven ability to produce high-quality technical documentation for ongoing system maintenance and support by the internal team.
