What We're Looking For
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Legal Manager/Assistant Manager to manage and oversee HRD Corp's in-house legal function. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to senior management, providing expert counsel on complex legal matters, ensuring regulatory compliance, and safeguarding the organisation's interests through sound governance and proactive risk management.
This role requires strong leadership, sound legal judgement, and proven experience in managing legal operations within a corporate or statutory environment.
Your Role and Impact
1. Legal Advisory and Governance
- Provide expert in-house legal advice on matters relating to regulatory compliance, corporate governance, contracts, and statutory obligations.
- Interpret and apply laws, regulations, and internal policies to support informed decision-making by senior management.
- Strengthen and maintain the organisation's legal governance to ensure full compliance with applicable laws and internal frameworks.
2. Contract Management and Legal Documentation
- Lead the drafting, review, and validation of contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to ensure legal soundness and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure contractual terms safeguard the organisation's interests and minimise potential risks.
- Oversee the complete contract lifecycle, ensuring efficient review, approval, and monitoring processes aligned with internal policies and legal standards.
3. Policy and Framework Development
- Develop, review, and enhance legal policies, frameworks, and procedures to strengthen organisational governance and operational integrity.
- Engage with regulators and external legal experts to ensure HRD Corp's legal frameworks remain responsive and compliant with evolving legal landscapes.
4. Legal Risk and Compliance Management
- Identify and assess potential legal risks across the organisation through ongoing research, analysis, and monitoring of legislative developments.
- Develop and implement proactive strategies to mitigate risks and ensure compliance across all business units.
- Manage and oversee engagement with external counsel to ensure quality and cost-effective legal representation.
5. Leadership and Advisory Collaboration
- Lead and mentor the in-house legal team, fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with senior management and key stakeholders to align legal strategies with corporate objectives and national mandates.
Professional Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP) or equivalent qualification.
A Master's in Law or Business Administration is an added advantage. - 10–12 years of experience in legal practice, including in-house legal experience within a statutory body, GLC, regulatory agency, or corporate organisation.
- Proven track record in contract management, legal advisory, compliance, governance, and risk management.
- Minimum 3–5 years in a managerial or advisory role, leading teams or managing external counsel.
- Strong analytical, drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and strategic thinking.
- Willing to be based in the Damansara Heights area.
