Technician (Rigid Plastics)

Key Responsibilities:

1. Machine Operation

•Set up and operate injection moulding, extrusion, and blow moulding machines according to production parameters (temperature, pressure, cycle time, material feed rate).

•Perform mould changeover and ensure proper installation and safety checks.

•Conduct first-piece inspection and adjust machine parameters to meet product specifications.

1. Process & Quality Control

•Inspect products for visual and dimensional defects; record results and take corrective actions.

•Support QA/QC during audits and provide required samples, documentation, and production records.

•Monitor material usage and ensure correct batch and resin type is used.

1. Maintenance & Troubleshooting

•Perform daily and scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on machines (e.g., cleaning heaters, checking sensors, replacing basic components).

•Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or basic electrical issues.

•Report major breakdowns or abnormalities to the supervisor/maintenance team immediately.

•Maintain cleanliness of machines and the working area.

1. Process Optimization

•Analyse process parameters to reduce cycle time, material waste, and reject rate.

•Propose and support improvement activities (Kaizen) related to moulding processes.

•Assist in establishing new SOPs and machine parameter sheets when new products or moulds are introduced.

1. Safety & Compliance

•Comply with all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company rules.

•Report any unsafe acts, near misses, or machine hazards.

•Practice 5S at the workstation at all times.

1. Documentation & Reporting

•Maintain accurate production logs (output, downtime, machine settings, material batch number).

•Complete maintenance and inspection checklists as required.

•Assist in preparing downtime analysis and improvement reports.

1. Teamwork & Training

•Work closely with the production, maintenance, and quality teams to achieve output targets.

•Provide training and guidance to new operators.

•Participate in site audits, safety briefings, and technical training sessions.

Qualifications & Requirements:

•Minimum SKM / Diploma in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical or related field.

•1–3 years working experience in injection moulding, extrusion, or blow moulding (rigid plastics preferred).

•Knowledge of moulding parameters, resin behaviour (PP/PE/ABS/PS/PC etc.), and material handling.

•Ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical and hydraulic issues.

•Familiar with measuring tools (calliper, micrometer, gauges).

•Able to read machine manuals, technical diagrams, and process sheets.

•Basic understanding of PLC-controlled machines (advantage).
