Job Description
Wood is currently recruiting for Section Manager - Piping Head of Discipline to join our team in Malaysia.

The Role
Responsible for managing the Piping Engineering section.

Contributes To Delivery Of Engineering Excellence And Engagement Through

  • Maintaining adequate competent human resources and assigning appropriate resources to projects
  • Monitoring and managing performance and providing training and corrective actions where required
  • Taking ownership of and improving Piping work processes and Piping drawings & documents forming part of documented quality system
  • Support managing of software and other tolls used in performance of Piping engineering and design
  • Providing Piping input to proposals
  • Monitoring and supporting Piping task forces on projects and their ensuring delivery
  • Role-modeling and advocating corporate engagement and behaviours

Responsibilities
Responsibilities & Duties for Project Activities

  • Work in collaboration with Manager of Engineering to set vision and strategic direction for the Piping Engineering Group and lead changes where required to deliver this set direction into the operation of the department.
  • Liaise, communicate and operate in conjunction with other engineering Group Managers reporting to Manger of Engineering to ensure satisfactory teamwork operation for the effective execution of all projects.
  • Direct and lead the group and set responsibility and accountability in agreement with the Manager of Engineering in accordance with company core values and competencies.
  • Select and customize / adapt computer systems and their use and development within the allocated group budget, to solve technical problems, deliver projects and promote effective management of information.
  • Direct group input to cost effective and innovative engineering execution plans that address all aspects of the scope including any specialist sub-contracts; support business winning activities and provide acceptable engineering execution on projects.
  • Prepare & Review man-hour estimates for bid proposals.
  • Direct group to deliver engineering execution plans.
  • Direct, manage and coordinate operations and day-to-day activities of the group to support execution, control manpower, maintain allocated departmental budget and deliver department initiatives, plans, targets and short and long term goals as agreed with Manager of Engineering.
  • Primary group contact for proposals, Sales and Marketing, review and agree discipline input to proposals.
  • Primary escalation contact for Project Managers on Piping issues faced by project and task force Piping team performance issues.
  • Develop Corporate and Project audit database for group

Responsibilities for Non-Project Related Work

  • Regularly report and update status of Piping Engineering Group operation, manpower, and performance to Manager of Engineering and implement corrective actions as required.
  • Liaise, communicate and operate in conjunction with the Project Management Team, other group managers, chief engineers and lead engineers to facilitate delivery of effective execution on all projects.
  • Provide group input to the annual engineering departmental budget in conjunction with Manager of Engineering and on approval administer and control costs to operate within the approved group budget.
  • Monitor operation of the group to ensure work satisfies the requirements of Wood's Health, Safety, Environmental, Security and Quality policy.
  • Oversee and administer tests to ensure employees have a firm understanding of company policies
  • Ensure company goals and objectives are being met by each employee and provide feedback
  • Work with Manager of Engineering and other group managers to:
  • Collaboratively produce group input to engineering execution plans and proposals with other group managers and departments.
  • Provide project teams that are able to deliver the group portion of the engineering execution plan.
  • Educate lead engineers on need for them to lead and motivate their teams to identify and control scope; impose change management and control and consider cost and risk aspects in all decisions they make.
  • Develop, monitor and maintain the core talent required to meet current and future goals of the group and manage these resources to best support successful project execution.
  • Identify, reward and retain high performers and improve the core talent within the group by utilising training and career development to grow and develop to reach their full potential.
  • Establish and continuously improve engineering systems and tools required by the group to deliver cost effective and competitive engineering execution.
  • Ensure the engineering systems and tools are optimised by development within the allocated project and / or group budget.
  • Keep group quality plans, procedures, work practices and standards up to date by including lessons learned from project execution and beneficial technological advances to support the latest engineering execution plan to deliver cost effective and competitive engineering solutions.
  • Direct operation of the group to ensure Wood's performance appraisal system is implemented to assess, monitor and develop staff.
  • Direct the group to operate in a positive and collaborative manner both internally, with all interfacing departments and in supporting project execution.
  • Set accountability within the group by ensuring each individual knows their role and responsibility and what is expected to deliver on target performance.
  • Recognise and reward individuals that exceed performance by using recognition and reward to motivate and inspire continued high performance.
  • Establish training, mentoring and communication programmes for all group personnel in conjunction with direct reports.
  • Work collaboratively to maintain harmonious relationships between the group and project managers, other departments, divisions, affiliates and clients.
  • Maintain good employee relations and projection of the Amec Foster Wheeler image to clients, public, and other third parties.
  • Maintain all necessary contact with professional bodies and represent Amec Foster Wheeler on the appropriate industry committees as agreed with Manger of Engineering.
  • Undertake selected performance appraisals and generally manage the whole process.
  • Ensure group communication sessions.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Mechanical with at least 20 years of experience in Refinery / Petrochemical / Chemical /Power/Pharmaceutical Plant Projects

Knowledge, Skills And Experience

  • Knowledge of piping work processes, inter discipline co-ordination, applications like 2D/3D CAD tools, Engineering software's like CAESER and Material Management Systems affecting project delivery and conversant with international codes and standards related to Piping
  • Strong communication and inter-personal skill.

  • Able to lead, motivate & guide team comprising of Engineers & Designers.
