Mechanical Specialist (Port Equipment & Hydraulic Systems) – Johor, Malaysia

Job Description:

The Mechanical Specialist is responsible for ensuring the
efficient and safe operation
of port mechanical equipment, including
Quay Cranes (QC), Rubber Tyre Gantry (RTG), and other essential terminal machinery
. The role focuses on
mechanical system advisory, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair
. You will collaborate with managers, engineers, technicians, and maintenance teams to maintain operational readiness and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform advisory role on mechanical systems, including modifications, operational state, and project acceptance.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment (QC, RTG, and others).
  • Monitor equipment reliability and implement improvements per project milestones.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues using testing equipment and technical manuals.
  • Implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Adhere to safety protocols for personnel and equipment.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and tools.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance records and reports.
  • Collaborate with other teams to share knowledge and provide technical support.
  • Respond promptly to emergency maintenance situations.
  • Train and mentor engineering team members.
  • Support departmental objectives, including warranty claims and PMDS evaluation.

Requirements / Must-Have:

  • Bachelor's or Professional Degree in Mechanical / Mechatronic Engineering
  • Registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM)
  • Minimum
    10 years' experience
    in mechanical engineering or port/heavy equipment industry
  • At least
    3 years in a leadership role
  • Hands-on experience in
    mechanical and hydraulic systems
    , including brakes, gearboxes, wire ropes, and structural components
  • Experience with
    container port terminal equipment (QC, RTG) is highly preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Knowledge of safety regulations in container port operations
  • Ability to work in
    physically demanding conditions
    and various weather situations
  • Proficiency in
    hand and power tools
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to work shifts and respond to emergencies
