A Power Control System Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and

implementing control systems for power generation, transmission, and distribution systems.

This role involves a deep understanding of electrical engineering, control systems theory,

and power system operations.

Key Responsibilities:

System Design:

  • Develop control strategies for power systems, including power plants, substations, and distribution networks.
  • Design control system architectures, including hardware and software components.
  • Model and simulate power systems to analyze system behavior and optimize control performance.

Control System Implementation:

  • Configure and program programmable logic controllers (PLCs), distributed control systems (DCS), and other control devices.
  • Develop and test control algorithms and software applications.
  • Integrate control systems with other subsystems, such as PPC, EMS, SCADA systems and communication networks.

System Testing and Commissioning:

  • Conduct system tests to ensure proper functionality and performance.
  • Commission new control systems and troubleshoot system issues.
  • Develop and execute test plans and procedures.

System Optimization:

  • Analyze system performance data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Implement control strategies to optimize system efficiency and reliability.
  • Conduct system tuning and calibration to achieve desired performance.

Maintenance and Support:

  • Provide technical support to operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, including operating procedures and maintenance manuals.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in power system control technology.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of power system principles, including power generation, transmission, and distribution.
  • Proficiency in control systems theory, including classical control, modern control, and digital control.
  • Experience with control system design and implementation tools, such as PSS/E or similar, PLC programming software, and SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of power system analysis software, such as PSS/E, PowerWorld Simulator, or ETAP.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in power system protection and automation.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy systems and their integration into power grids.
  • Experience with cybersecurity for control systems.
  • Certification in relevant industry standards, such as IEEE and IEC.
