Role Purpose
The Senior Duty Engineer at the Maintenance Control Center (MCC) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of aircraft maintenance and ensuring the seamless coordination between the airline and maintenance contractors. This role requires in-depth technical knowledge of aircraft systems, strong leadership skills, and the ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
Key Accountability
- Monitor the status of the airline's fleet to ensure all aircraft are in airworthy condition. Coordinate with flight operations to manage aircraft scheduling and maintenance requirements. Provide real-time technical support and troubleshooting guidance to resolve in-flight and on-ground issues.
- Liaise with maintenance contractors to ensure timely and efficient execution of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. Review and approve maintenance work orders, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards. Ensure all maintenance activities are documented accurately and comply with the airline's maintenance program and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical direction and support to maintenance teams and contractors. Assess and analyze technical issues, implementing corrective actions and preventive measures.
- Lead the response to aircraft on-ground (AOG) situations and other maintenance-related emergencies. Develop and maintain contingency plans for various operational scenarios.
- Ensure all maintenance operations adhere to safety regulations and industry standards. Conduct audits and inspections of maintenance activities to ensure compliance with regulatory and company policies.
- Maintain effective communication with flight operations, maintenance teams, and other stakeholders. Prepare and present reports on fleet status, maintenance activities, and operational performance. Participate in regular meetings and briefings to discuss operational issues and strategic planning.
- Mentor and train junior engineers and maintenance staff. Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment within the MCC.
Qualifications & Working Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field or Licenses: CAAM Airframe and Powerplant license or equivalent certification.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in aircraft maintenance, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or senior engineering role.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong technical knowledge of aircraft systems and maintenance procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Effective communication and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in using maintenance management software and tools.
- Experience with specific aircraft types operated by the airline.
- Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance standards (e.g., CAAM, FAA, EASA).
- Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Key Challenges
- This role typically operates in an office setting within the Maintenance Control Center but may require visits to maintenance sites, hangars, and other operational areas.
- Availability for shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as aircraft operations run 24/7.
