**Job Purpose**

The Academic Director is responsible to the Executive Director and Chairman for:
(a) providing strategic leadership and administrative management of the implementation of the College's academic strategy and policy at the Faculty level, including fostering strategic change and development in coursework programmes, teaching and learning and student affairs;

(b) assisting the Executive Director and Programme Leaders to align academic activities to achieve the relevant outcomes specified in the Strategic Plan, the Teaching and Learning Plan and other relevant College Plans; and

(c) facilitating, assessing and reporting faculty progress against strategic goals and operational plans in teaching and learning, coursework, quality assurance and student affairs;
**Key Responsibilities**

1. Provide leadership, oversight and coordination of course profiles, coursework programmes, teaching and learning and student affairs;

2. Foster and support innovative change, for example in the effective use of technologies to support teaching, provision of short courses and development of new types of qualification;

3. Create and support academic collaborations with other Universities, and across Faculties and Departments, for example, sharing coursework programmes and teaching resources;

4. Contribute to, and where appropriate, lead market intelligence gathering ensuring effective use of such information;

5. Facilitate compliance with strategic and policy frameworks relating to coursework, teaching and learning and student activities managed at the Department or Faculty level, including the Academic Quality Assurance system and service quality standards;

6. Contribute to strategy and policy development at the College level;

7. Undertake tasks delegated by the Executive Director, including academic appeals, academic misconduct, plagiarism and academic complaints, when escalated from Departments;

8. Liaise with Department Heads and service providers relevant to his/her responsibilities, especially the Registry Department and Student Services Department;

9. Liaise with Programme Leaders and appropriate lecturers on teaching programmes in the Faculty;

10. Advise the Executive Director on the allocation of Faculty teaching and learning strategic funds; and

11. Represent the Faculty on various College Committees (as they may exist from time to time) including as a member of:
(a) the Academic Board, Academic Management Team and its Examination Board; and

(b) groups convened by the Executive Director, for example, the Assessment Committee, Quality & Audit Committee

12. Be a member of, or Chair, as appropriate, of Faculty and Department Committees as determined by the Executive Director and Chairman;

13. Undertake other responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director and Chairman, which may include working parties and committees;

14. Ensure the Executive Director and Chairman is appraised of and consulted regularly on relevant issues; and

15. Represent the Executive Director and Chairman as requested.

**Job Requirements**

1. Excellent academic leadership and management skills and experience.

2. Demonstrated leadership and excellence in teaching and learning innovation and strategy.

3. Demonstrated ability to conceptualise, plan and implement strategic developments within the context of broad plans.

4. Experience with budget management.

5. Experience in leading, managing and coordinating a broad range of academic functions in line with strategic objectives.

6. An outstanding academic background in a disciplinary area relevant to the Faculty, including relevant academic qualifications.

7. High level consultation and negotiation skills.

8. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the demonstrated capacity to effectively work cooperatively and in partnership with diverse groups and to sensitively balance the requirements of each of these groups.

9. Understanding of and commitment to Quality Assurance, Risk Management, Business Process Improvement
