Job Purpose

The role requires ensuring that all underwriting and related tasks are carried out in accordance with established underwriting guidelines, Shariah principles, and compliance requirements. In performing these duties, the individual must support the company's goals for growth and profitability while exercising prudence in underwriting decisions and consistently observing cost-control measures. Maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity is essential, as is building strong networks and productive working relationships both within and outside the company to reinforce organizational objectives. Additionally, the individual is expected to undertake any other duties assigned by superiors as needed

Job Description

  • Examines and evaluate documents such as proposal forms, broking slips, quotation slips, inspection reports and other relevant data to determine degree of risk, underwriting and market selection in accordance with underwriting guidelines.
  • Accepts or reject, determine the pricing, rating and/or terms and conditions of the policy cover within the underwriting authority and/or capacity.
  • Communicates in writing or verbally to obtain further information to assist in the decision- making process.
  • Assists sales and support staff in resolving problem areas and enquiries.
  • Assist Superiors in preparing reports on underwriting statistic.
  • Refer to Superiors on problem areas or matters beyond authority limits and assist in resolving the matters.
  • To carry out all other duties and tasks as requested by Management and/or Superiors as and when required.

Qualification & Requirement

  • Possess a degree in Insurance or Business Studies majoring in Engineering and/ or Insurance with at least 5 years relevant working experience; or
  • Any other Business Studies majoring in engineering and/ or insurance with minimum 7 years experience in underwriting of Non-Motor class of business.
  • Associateship in Malaysian Insurance Institute, Chartered Insurance Institute or equivalent will have added advantage.
  • More than 5 years of experience in the Insurance/ Takaful industry or related industries and been exposed in doing claims, marketing and underwriting will have added advantage.
