1. Shariah Review & Compliance Assessment

  • Conduct Shariah review exercises on operations, activities, products, and services across all Maybank Group entities offering Islamic banking solutions.
  • Ensure all business activities comply with Shariah principles and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Identify, assess, and confirm Shariah-related issues reported by business units, Shariah Review, Audit, or third parties.
  • Determine whether issues constitute
    Potential Shariah Non-Compliance
    (PSNC) and ensure timely escalation.

2. Reporting & Escalation

  • Prepare and present Shariah review findings to the Shariah Committee on a monthly basis.
  • For confirmed Potential SNC events, ensure reporting to ORION and Incident Management Data Collection (IMDC) within regulatory timelines.
  • Support business units in preparing rectification papers for Management, SC, and the Board as required by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) guidelines.
  • Notify Shariah Risk Management of SC's final decisions for further action and reporting.

3. Remediation, Monitoring & Follow-up

  • Identify gaps, lapses, and root causes of Shariah issues, and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop effective rectification and mitigation plans with clear timelines.
  • Perform ongoing monitoring to ensure timely closure of outstanding gaps and prevent recurrence.
  • Engage business units and incident owners to obtain updates, feedback, and confirmation of remediation activities.

4. Advisory & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Provide Shariah insights and advisory to internal stakeholders on Islamic products, processes, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance Shariah compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Support the Shariah Committee's oversight role by conveying complex Shariah assessments in a clear, accessible manner.
