Assistant Manager

We are seeking a hands-on underwriter with strong technical expertise to support the Fire & Miscellaneous portfolios.

The role requires close collaboration with the Section Head to deliver high-quality underwriting service, drive performance, and support the business, while guiding and developing team members within the section.

(This opportunity is ideal for Senior Underwriters joining as Assistant Manager, with the potential to progress into a manager role.)

The key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Assist the Section Head in developing strategies to increase market share and maximize profitability for the Fire & Miscellaneous portfolio.

Explore and evaluate product, pricing, and underwriting options to maintain an optimal balance between portfolio growth and profitability in alignment with company strategy.

Lead and align the team, fostering professional development, enhancing technical and business capabilities, and promoting a culture of accountability and excellence.

Collaborate with Treaty Reinsurers on risks exceeding company authority, ensuring timely approvals and optimal risk management.

Build and maintain strong relationships with the reinsurance market, brokers, and agents to identify opportunities and stay ahead of market trends.

Drive product innovation and lead projects within the Fire & Miscellaneous portfolio to support business growth and competitiveness.

Review and refine underwriting rules, guidelines, and risk assessment processes to ensure consistent, high-quality underwriting decisions.

Perform underwriting and risk analysis in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Support the Section Head with internal and external audits, as well as reporting requirements.

Job Specification:

  • Degree in Insurance or a related discipline.
  • Professional qualifications in CAii / AAii.
  • Minimum 5–10 years of experience in Fire and Miscellaneous classes of insurance.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability and drive to excel professionally, with the capacity to guide, mentor, and motivate others.
