As the
Head of SME Banking
, you will drive Maybank's SME growth strategy within the Northern Sarawak corridor, focusing on deepening client relationships, expanding market share, and ensuring asset quality. You will lead a team of Relationship Managers (RMs) to deliver superior financial solutions that empower local businesses while maintaining prudent risk management and alignment with the Bank's strategic priorities. Key responsibilities as below :

  • Develop and execute SME business strategies in collaboration with the Head, CBC to grow quality portfolios, deposits, and cross-sell opportunities within targeted high-impact areas in the Miri region.
  • Lead and motivate a team of 6–12 Relationship Managers to achieve sales targets, drive consistent productivity, and deliver service excellence.
  • Build new customer relationships and expand business with existing clients through proactive engagement and tailored financial solutions.
  • Partner with internal business units and external stakeholders (e.g., CGC, SME Corp, state agencies) to develop and implement best-in-class selling propositions and integrated financial offerings.
  • Enhance profitability and asset quality by closely monitoring Special Mention Accounts (SMA), Non-Performing Loans (NPLs), and CGC accounts to ensure compliance and portfolio health.
  • Deepen client relationships, manage customer feedback and complaints effectively, and ensure overall satisfaction with CBC's service delivery.
  • Identify emerging business opportunities, stay abreast of market and industry trends, and translate insights into actionable growth strategies.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in SME or Commercial Banking, including at least 3 years in credit and sales.
  • Proven leadership track record in managing a sales team, driving portfolio growth, and achieving business performance targets.
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate and execute regional SME strategies in alignment with Group priorities and business direction.
  • Strong business development acumen with in-depth understanding of credit assessment, cash flow analysis, and risk-return trade-offs.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and analytical skills to build effective relationships and deliver data-driven decisions.
  • Energetic, resourceful, and self-motivated, with strong ownership for results and a high-performance mindset.
  • Familiarity with the Sarawak SME market landscape, including local business networks, will be an added advantage.
