Lead Game Designer

Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur | Mon–Fri, 9am–6pm

6-month Contract (Renewable)

Up to MYR 8,000 monthly

Medical: Up to MYR 1,000 annually

Our Client
is a well-established global video game development partner with 20+ studios across North America, Europe, South America & Asia. With 30+ years of accumulated experience in the industry, they support many top game developers/publishers worldwide — working across codev, art, audio, QA, localization, and player support services for PC, console, and mobile platforms.

They are now hiring a
Lead Game Designer
to take ownership of the creative vision for an internal Unity-based project. Initially focused on building gameplay systems from prototype to final tuning, the role will later transition to co-development support for external partner projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a small design team across full development cycles.
  • Define and document gameplay systems, mechanics, pacing, and player experience.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to prototype & iterate using Unity.
  • Balance creativity vs production feasibility — ensuring fun, performant designs.
  • Utilize playtest feedback + data to refine player experiences.
  • Work cross-functionally to maintain a strong, unified creative direction.
  • Help establish design pipelines scalable for co-development services.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 5+ years professional experience in Game Design (any: level, combat, technical, worldbuilding, encounter, narrative).
  • Contributed to
    at least 1 shipped title
    (PC/Console/Mobile/VR/AR).
  • Hands-on gameplay/system prototyping experience in
    Unity or Unreal
    .
  • Strong understanding of mechanics, player psychology, balance, pacing.
  • Excellent collaboration & communication with cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience in
    AAA development
  • Knowledge in procedural / emergent / AI-driven gameplay systems
  • Experience with co-op/multiplayer or live-service design
