Backend Developer

What's the role?

As a Backend Developer, you serve as a team expert in backend implementation; emphasis on Java programming, clean code principles, and testing culture. Including: diagnosing problems, getting around limitations, and creating efficiency and optimization to do things that will drive the platform's capabilities. Actively participate in product feature and design discussions to help shape products. You present solutions to both technical leadership and other software engineering teams.

What You'll do

• Technical Excellence:
• Design, develop, and deploy scalable, high-quality backend solutions using Java, Spring Boot, and API development tools such as GraphQL, AWS Lambda, SQS, Kinesis, DynamoDB, Redis, SNS, OpenSearch, and SQL.
• Optimise system performance, reliability, and scalability through testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvements.
• Collaboration and Ownership:
• Partner with technical leadership, product teams, and engineers to shape product design and ensure technical solutions align with organisational goals.
• Take ownership of end-to-end solutions, driving decisions to solve complex technical challenges with autonomy.
• Lifecycle and Process Improvements:
• Enhance the software development lifecycle by promoting efficiency, maintainability, and scalability.
• Develop innovative solutions to address system limitations and support high-traffic, dynamic environments.
• Leadership and Mentorship:
• Mentor developers, fostering professional growth and promoting collaboration and best practices within the team.
• Lead by example, contributing to technical strategy and helping define engineering standards.

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience in;
• API development with GraphQL, service-oriented / event-driven architecture.
• Significant experience on Java, Spring.
• Nice to have: AWS (Lambda, SQS, ECS, DynamoDB, Kinesis, Elasticsearch), Redis, SQL.
• Strong communication skills in English.
• Interest and ability to learn other coding languages as needed.
• Familiarity or first experience on SAP Commerce Cloud (Hybris) desirable.
