Our client is a fast-growing technology consulting firm specializing in enterprise data, analytics, and integration solutions. With ongoing expansion across the region, they are building a new data engineering team in Malaysia to support multiple large-scale projects involving data platforms, analytics, and governance.

This role is ideal for professionals who want to play a key part in shaping a new team from the ground up. You will work with regional stakeholders and technical leads to design and implement robust data pipelines, models, and frameworks that help clients unlock value from their data.

Job levels: Both Mid-level and Senior

Location: Kuala Lumpur (Hybrid)

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and optimize data pipelines and ETL workflows for data warehouse, data lake, and analytics environments.
  • Develop and maintain data models that ensure consistency, scalability, and performance across business domains.
  • Implement data quality frameworks and validation rules to ensure integrity and reliability of data assets.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, architects, and data scientists to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Participate in solution design and contribute to best practices for data architecture and governance.
  • Support project delivery throughout the full lifecycle — from requirement gathering to testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Provide technical input during presales or proposal stages, helping to scope work and propose data solutions when needed.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies in cloud data platforms, data integration, and AI/ML-driven data engineering.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
  • 3–5+ years
    of hands-on experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or big data environments.
  • Strong
    SQL skills
    and solid understanding of
    data modeling
    concepts (dimensional, relational, and conceptual models).
  • Experience with
    ETL/ELT tools
    (e.g., Talend, Informatica, or similar).
  • Exposure to
    cloud data platforms
    such as
    Snowflake, AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse, or BigQuery
    is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of
    Python
    or another scripting language for data processing.
  • Understanding of
    data quality, metadata management, and governance
    principles.
  • Certification such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) or vendor-specific data/cloud certifications is a plus.
  • For senior roles: proven track record in
    data architecture or solution design
    , with the ability to mentor junior engineers and lead projects end-to-end.
