1. Job Information

Post: Assistant Professor

Grade: DS51

Status of Appointment: Permanent

Location: Gombak

2. Scope

The officer shall be a member of the staff of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department to which he is assigned by the IIUM and shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties as required of an academic staff member of the IIUM. The officer is expected to undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to colleagues and students, attend meetings of IIUM Authorities, and participate in the general life of the IIUM community. The officer is also expected to advise and guide students in relation to their character, behavior, and moral conduct.

3. Key Responsibilities

  1. Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, workshops, and seminars.
  2. Developing curricula and course material that can be used across a number of platforms.
  3. Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base.
  4. Setting and grading assignments, tests, and exams.
  5. Conducting research, and writing papers, proposals, journal articles, and books.
  6. Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events in and outside of the institution.
  7. Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the institution.
  8. Providing support to students and other colleagues.
  9. Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field.

4. Minimum Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in the relevant discipline.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Published work would be advantageous.
  • Certified Halal Auditor by Competent Halal Authority.

5. Minimum Competencies

  • Ability to inspire students with your passion.
  • Flexibility, resilience, and willingness to work long hours.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Committed and collaborate effectively within a team.

6. Language Qualifications

All candidates must have obtained:

  1. Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level OR equivalent qualification recognised by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).
  2. IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4. Candidates without any of these qualifications will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
