Job Description

Team and Role Introduction:
Controller that will be stationed in Kuala Lumpur, who will be the overall in charge of the shared service team. The team is primarily in charged of Singapore, Malaysia and Regional Offices' financial records for Lazada. These are all standalone entities, no consolidation is required. The main functions in Malaysia include General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Market Place. There is a total of 14 direct/indirect reports reporting to the Controller, ranging from senior managers to associates. The role reports to the Regional Controller located in Singapore, who is part of the wider Controllership team that includes Process Leads, BPO management, and Financial Information Systems teams.

Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the monthly closing for accounts and preparation of annual financial reports supporting all stakeholders within or outside of Finance
  2. Review journal entries for accruals, revenue recognition, and preparation of variance analysis
  3. Timely submission of accurate monthly reporting deliverables to Regional Finance
  4. Manage Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and General Ledger team
  5. Optimize processes and performance
  6. Ensure full Balance Sheet justification as a key measurable KPI
  7. Work closely with Finance Business Partners and stakeholders, supporting and providing accounting advice on business initiatives, accounting changes
  8. Collaborate with other teams like tax, treasury, and procurement to ensure impacts on financial records are considered and recorded
  9. Ensure an effective and efficient control environment following SOX standards and compliance with financial policies and procedures
  10. Support external and internal audits and ensure implementation of agreed-upon recommendations resulting from the audit findings
  11. Provide coaching and guidance to team members
  12. Motivate and develop team members
  13. Be proactive to ensure a culture of trust
  14. Provide opportunities to grow, demonstrate career path plans, and development plans
  15. Work collaboratively with Regional Finance for appropriate accounting treatment for transactions and events requiring significant professional judgment
  16. On an ad hoc basis, participate in projects and support business and finance activities

Job Requirements

Requirements/Qualifications (must have):

  • CPA or Chartered Accountant license with at least 12 years of accounting experience, of which at least 10 years in Managerial level or more
  • Excellent technical knowledge and a solid understanding of the activities performed in the entire finance function
  • Understands internal control principles and experience in risk and control identification
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills and detail-oriented
  • Demonstrates the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders, humble and challenging mindset
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and demonstrate flexibility as priorities change
  • Ability to work within tight timeframes

Requirements/Qualifications (good to have):

  • Mix of private and public accounting background preferred
  • Experience in e-commerce or retail is preferred but not mandatory
  • Knowledge and experience in SAP is an advantage
  • Advanced knowledge in Excel and/or SQL is an advantage
