**Job Description:**

We are seeking a highly skilled Trade Policy Specialist to join our team at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in Kuala Lumpur.

The successful candidate will support engagement on our trade policy (including CPTPP membership) and market access work to grow the bilateral trade relationship between the UK and Malaysia.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop effective relationships with colleagues, business and stakeholders, working collaboratively across the British High Commission; Asia Pacific DBT network; and in the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and report on trade policy developments in Malaysia and their potential impact on the UK, providing briefing and advice to DBT and other stakeholders.
  • Build relationships to deliver our market access campaigns and objectives, understanding and effectively collaborating with businesses, other nations and the Malaysian Government.
  • Maintain and update briefings of Malaysia's trade policy developments and key market access issues.
  • Network & HQ Relationships – coordinate closely with DBT in London and the APAC Market Access Counsellor in Tokyo, establishing and resolving market access barriers, and providing intelligence on wider market access and trade policy trends in Malaysia and SE Asia.
  • Identify and report market access barriers across DBT Malaysia's market access portfolio, providing regular updates and coordinating administrative requests and regional/HQ returns.
  • Support the Senior Market Access Advisor in managing the logistics and administration of the annual JETCO meeting, interim meetings of officials and Working Groups, monitoring and reporting on progress, and working collaboratively with stakeholders.
