Senior Data Developer

CMA CGM is a global leader in shipping and logistics. Within the FiCOM Group Controlling – Shipping division, we are accelerating our Finance Transformation agenda through advanced automation, Python-based workflows, data engineering, and BI-driven process improvements.

This role plays a central part in the FiCOM
Business Control Team
, and all automation/industrialization initiatives supporting Business Controlling for global Shipping Lines.

We are looking for a
Senior Data Developer
with strong experience in
Python automation
, data engineering, and workflow industrialization.

Your mission is to support the Business Controlling team by:

• maintaining and developing Python/VBA scripts,
• automating complex Excel & OneStream workflows,
• building repeatable and scalable processes,
• standardizing data models,
• and creating clear SOPs and documentation.

You will collaborate closely with Business Controllers, Finance leadership, and data teams to strengthen the backbone of FiCOM's reporting and forecasting processes.

This is
not
a junior analyst role. We expect someone with strong technical expertise, autonomy, and maturity to own end-to-end development.

Key Result Areas

1. Build, optimize, and industrialize Python/VBA scripts and automated workflows.
2. Develop consistent data models, pipelines, and integrations supporting FP&A processes.
3. Redesign processes, create SOPs, and ensure efficient, scalable end-to-end workflows.
4. Build and maintain BI dashboards, translating financial KPIs into actionable insights.

Key Accountabilities/Duties

Python Development & Workflow Automation (Core 60%)

• Develop, maintain, refactor, and industrialize Python scripts used across FiCOM.
• Build robust data processing pipelines (cleaning, transformation, allocation, reconciliation).
• Optimize existing scripts for performance, maintainability, modularity, and error handling.
• Create reusable functions, classes, and standardized libraries for the team.
• Implement logging, exception management, and version control (Git).
• Automate Excel-heavy tasks using
  pandas, openpyxl, xlsxwriter, pywin32
  , etc.

Data Engineering & Integration

• Ensure data consistency, structure, and alignment with Finance master data.
• Build standard data models for recurring FP&A cycles (Actuals, Flash, Forecast, Budget).
• Create standardized transformation pipelines powering both Excel tools and BI dashboards.

Process Industrialization & SOP Documentation

• Analyse current workflows performed by Business Controllers.
• Design improved and automated processes that reduce manual workload.
• Create clear and complete SOPs for each script, dashboard, and workflow.
• Ensure smooth handover and training of end-users (controllers, analysts).
• Maintain documentation repositories and development logs.

Dashboarding & Visualization (Power BI / Qlik Sense)

• Build and maintain BI dashboards supporting Shipping line performance monitoring.
• Implement optimized data models behind visual layers.
• Translate business KPIs (Price, Volume, Mix, Cost, Allocation logic…) into actionable visuals.
• Support the team during closing/forecast cycles with rapid visualization updates.

Ad-hoc Support to Finance Operations

• Run automation scripts during monthly peaks.
• Produce mass extracts, reconciliations, and datasets to support Business Controllers.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and ensure service continuity during critical periods.

Role Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Science or similar.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in Python development, automation, or data engineering.
• Experience in multinational or fast-paced environments preferred.
• Senior-level Python (minimum 5 years): pandas, numpy, openpyxl/xlsxwriter, automations, ETL, modular architecture.
• Strong experience automating Excel-based workflows (Python + VBA).
• Solid experience in data modeling and ETL structuring.
• Knowledge of SQL and experience with Snowflake (strong advantage).
• Experience with
  Power BI
  and/or
  Qlik Sense
  dashboard creation.
• Git, CI/CD, versioning, documentation best practices.
• Structured, proactive, and eager to drive transformation.
• Ability to understand Finance workflows (FP&A, Controlling, Allocation logic).
• High autonomy & ownership — able to deliver with minimal supervision.
• Strong analytical mindset and problem-solving capacity.
• Capability to translate business needs into technical specifications.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Excellent communication skills for cross-team collaboration.
• Exposure to finance or FP&A is a plus, but not mandatory if technically strong.
