Senior Tooling Engineer

Role Purpose

• Tooling program management and timing plan for new program introduction.
• Provide tooling-related estimation (cost and lead time) for new tooling program for Spirit Malaysia and other sites.
• New tooling sourcing and selection process.
• Tooling supplier technical support & engineering assistance.
• New Tool try-out, buy-off and acceptance.
• Support Tooling RFQ (TRFQ) technical assessment on behalf of Spirit Malaysia and other sites.
• Manage and score tooling supplier performance as per Spirit Tooling Management Procedure for every new tooling program including final report with lesson learnt.
• Develop local/regional tooling suppliers with strong tooling capabilities to meet tooling quality requirements.
• Review and update all related Spirit Malaysia tooling procedure in regard with tooling supplier performance and direct suppliers tooling.
• Perform tooling suppliers audit as required by Spirit Malaysia and other sites

Key Responsibilities

• Continuous support to External Customer for process, quality and tooling improvements, root cause identifying and solutions.
• Accountable for compliance to product configuration management regulations.
• Meeting program productivity and quality KPI through continuous process improvement
• Estimate tooling process planning, tooling cost and execution for new process introduction
• Review, identify and validate detailed changes and complete impacts brought by customer, engineering or standard changes based on change procedure.
• Create and/or validate and maintain Tooling systems, database and configuration to the valid customer-specified configuration.
• Perform and/or supervise tooling laser tracker operation for tool setting.
• Perform and/or supervise laser tracker operation for one of method on finding root cause.
• Compile, validate and transmit engineering data to suppliers at the correct configuration, scope and timing.
• Apply extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes to estimate process flow, build labor hours, materials, and tooling for new project bids under senior supervision.
• Participate in the material review board (MRB), Program meeting, or other internal customer in validating non-conformances and lead multi-functional activities of finding agreeable disposition and containment.
• Identify and validate root cause and corrective actions using problem solving tools and best practices in accordance with company procedures & guidelines.
• Identify and validate accurate response to supplier and production request for engineering assistance of varying complexity per the applicable procedures.
• Collaborate with manufacturing organizations to design, test and implement effective tooling and equipment for manufacturing.
• Evaluate and propose improvement to the tools, systems and procedures used by the engineers for better compliance, effectiveness, and efficiency.
• Accountable for meeting individual and team's measurable annual performance goals cascaded from and aligned to higher organization level goals.
• Apply work practices in compliance to AS9100, NADCAP, ISO9001, ISO140001, OHSAS18001 and all applicable customer standards.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Degree in   Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Industrial or equivalent) with minimum 5 years working experience within a tool engineering environment.
• Good knowledge on metal working technique such as tool manufacturing, tool assembly, composite tooling, part proving experience.
• Good work experience in tool inspection/ component inspection, knowledge of non-contact measuring techniques and co-ordinate measuring technique.
• Have strong analytical and planning skill and able to work independently. Able to work effectively with all levels, proactive and resourceful.
• Require frequent travelling within Malaysia and non-frequent travelling within the region.
• Knowledge in Microsoft Office tools - Words, Power Point, Project
• Experience   in CATIA software -3D and   2D. Able to operate with minimum supervision. Knowledge in design making   is an advantage.
• Have exposure on laser tracker and CMM inspection is an advantage (Coordinate Measurement System)
• Have experience/ exposure   and skills in project management activities.  Experience in APQP application   is an advantage.
