JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (SUMMARY)

The incumbent will be assisting in producing economic and market research and relevant sector studies which will serve as a leading source of strategic insights and innovative solutions, empowering decision-making and driving sustainable growth for our stakeholders through excellence in economic and market research and portfolio management. The role focuses on delivering actionable insights to achieve equitable and sustainable outcomes for Bumiputera prosperity. The incumbent will also provide strategic recommendations, mentor junior team members, and engage with senior stakeholders to drive evidence-based decision-making.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for an incumbent to conduct many of the following types of analyses:

  1. Statistical modeling to analyze data correlations and relationships.
  2. Database maintenance and upgrades based on variable revisions and programming updates.
  3. Economic and fiscal impact analyses for feasibility studies of development programs or projects.
  4. Trend forecasting of fiscal, demographic, economic, and market data with key policy implications.
  5. Benchmarking and best practices to compare economic performance across regions, programs, or organizations.
  6. Surveys to assess business climate perceptions and issue awareness.
  7. Data visualization to engage stakeholders using modern tools.

The organization is also looking for the incumbent to manage projects and programs in ensuring delivery:

  1. Facilitate discussions with stakeholders to elaborate on the areas of proposed improvements
  2. Define the problem and hypothesize the proposed solution
  3. Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis to drive the proposed solutions:

  4. Quantitative research methodologies include data mining, financial modeling, and valuation analysis to generate measurable insights and predictions.

  5. Qualitative research methodologies focus on market research and industry intelligence gathering to understand trends, behaviors, and perceptions.
  6. Consolidate the findings from the analysis and present solutions to stakeholders
  7. Develop and present an implementation plan for recommended changes.
  8. Support development activities, including pursuit development and thought paper production.
  9. Support other divisions/departments to achieve the organization's goal from time to time.
  10. Conduct any appropriate task as given by the superior from time to time.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor's degree in economics, business management, statistics or a related field with a good training in statistics and econometrics; a graduate degree is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., STATA, EViews, R, Python) and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Strong understanding of econometric techniques, time-series analysis, forecasting model, economic impact models, municipal or state budget analyses, and/or programming languages is a plus.
  • A minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a Researcher, with a strong preference for candidates with a background in the financial services industry. Additional expertise in trade and development economics, market research, strategic planning, and policy development is highly desirable. Experience in management consultancy is a plus.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

1. Research and Data Analysis:

  • Plan, design, and analyze econometric research models to interpret economic relationships.
  • Devise methods and procedures for collecting and analyzing data, leveraging knowledge of data sources, econometric techniques, and sampling methodologies.
  • Compile and review demographic, economic, and fiscal data for research projects.

  • Reporting and Presentation:

  • Organize data into structured report formats and create graphic illustrations to effectively communicate research findings.

  • Formulate key findings, implications, and recommendations, and present them to stakeholders.

3. Technical Expertise:

  • Work with a high degree of computational accuracy.
  • Utilize a variety of programming languages, platforms, and database technologies to support research and analysis.

4. Project and Team Management:

  • Assist cross-functional teams and multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely delivery of high-quality outputs.
  • Demonstrate strong team-building and interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relationships.

5. Communication and Strategic Insight:

  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills to convey complex economic concepts to diverse audiences.
