Position Overview

The IR/ER Lead is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing effective industrial and employee relations strategies across the Group. This role ensures consistent application of labour laws, company policies, and disciplinary procedures while fostering a positive and compliant work environment. The incumbent acts as a key advisor to management on IR/ER matters and leads the resolution of workplace issues in a fair and timely manner.

Key Responsibilities

1. Industrial Relations (IR)

  • Develop and implement Group-wide IR policies, procedures, and frameworks aligned with employment laws and business needs.
  • Manage and represent the company in all IR matters, including conciliation, mediation, and cases with the Industrial Relations Department or Labour Office.
  • Provide advisory support to management and site HR on disciplinary actions, domestic inquiries, and terminations to ensure legal compliance and fairness.
  • Liaise with external legal counsel and authorities on complex IR cases.
  • Monitor and analyse trends in industrial relations to mitigate potential risks and recommend preventive measures.

2. Employee Relations (ER)

  • Promote a healthy and positive employee relations climate through engagement, communication, and conflict management initiatives.
  • Support and guide line managers in handling grievances, complaints, and workplace conflicts effectively and fairly.
  • Partner with business units to identify and address issues impacting employee morale and engagement.
  • Conduct investigations on misconduct, harassment, or policy breaches in a structured and impartial manner.
  • Ensure consistent interpretation and implementation of company policies across all entities.

3. Policy, Compliance & Reporting

  • Review and update HR policies and handbooks to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and alignment with best practices.
  • Provide regular reports and analysis on IR/ER cases, disciplinary actions, and trends to Group Management.
  • Support HR audits and ensure proper documentation and case management processes.

4. Capability Building

  • Build IR/ER knowledge and capability among HR business partners and line managers through training and advisory support.
  • Keep abreast of changes in employment legislation and ensure timely communication to relevant stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Law, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of experience in Industrial and Employee Relations, with at least 3 years in a Group or regional role.
  • Strong understanding of Malaysian labour and employment laws, including the Employment Act, Industrial Relations Act, and Trade Unions Act.
  • Proven experience managing disciplinary and grievance matters, domestic inquiries, and dealings with labour authorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and influencing skills.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
