The job scope of a 
Civil Project Engineer

involves managing the technical aspects of construction projects from conception to completion, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and adhere to quality and safety standards. They serve as the key link between design teams, contractors, clients, and regulatory bodies. 

Key responsibilities typically include:

Project Planning and Design

  • Feasibility Assessment:
     Conducting site surveys and feasibility studies, analyzing survey reports and geological data to assess project risks and requirements.
  • Design and Documentation:
     Assisting in the preparation, review, and interpretation of technical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and construction documents (e.g., shop drawings).
  • Scheduling:
     Developing, monitoring, and updating detailed project schedules and timelines (using software like MS Project or Primavera) to ensure timely delivery.

Construction Oversight and Management

  • Site Supervision:
     Overseeing and inspecting on-site construction activities, such as earthworks, foundations, and structural erection, to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Quality Control and Assurance (QA/QC):
     Establishing and implementing quality control protocols, including witnessing field tests (e.g., soil compaction, concrete tests) and addressing non-conformance issues.
  • Coordination and Communication:
     Liaising and coordinating effectively with a multidisciplinary team, including architects, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, clients, and local authorities, to resolve technical issues and discrepancies.
  • Problem-Solving:
     Providing real-time technical support and troubleshooting design and site-related problems that arise during construction.

Administration and Compliance

  • Documentation and Reporting:
     Maintaining comprehensive project documentation, including daily/weekly status reports, meeting minutes, and as-built drawings for audits and record-keeping.
  • Permitting and Regulations:
     Ensuring all project activities comply with relevant local building codes, safety codes, and environmental regulations, and obtaining necessary permits and approvals from authorities.
  • Procurement Support:
     Assisting the procurement team by reviewing bills of quantities (BOQ), evaluating subcontractor quotations, and managing material submittals and delivery schedules.
