An
OSH Coordinator cum Forklift Trainer
is a dual-role position combining the responsibilities of managing workplace safety and health with the specialized task of training and certifying forklift operators
. This role requires expertise in both general Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) practices and the specific safety requirements for powered industrial trucks. 

OSH Coordinator responsibilities

The OSH Coordinator's duties focus on the overall safety and compliance of the entire workplace. 

  • Developing and implementing safety policies:
     Creating and enforcing safety procedures and guidelines in accordance with national and company regulations.
  • Inspecting and auditing:
     Conducting regular safety audits and inspections of work areas to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Investigating incidents:
     Leading or assisting in the investigation of workplace accidents and incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintaining documentation:
     Managing and updating safety records, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Managing emergency procedures:
     Developing and coordinating emergency response plans, including fire drills and evacuation procedures.
  • Promoting safety culture:
     Communicating safety information to staff and encouraging a company-wide culture of safety awareness and best practices.

Forklift Trainer responsibilities

The Forklift Trainer's responsibilities are specific to the safe operation of powered industrial trucks, such as forklifts. 

  • Conducting forklift training:
     Providing training to new and existing operators, covering both theoretical knowledge and practical, hands-on skills.
  • Developing training materials:
     Creating and updating training curriculum and materials based on current safety standards and regulations.
  • Assessing and certifying operators:
     Evaluating operator competency through written and practical examinations to ensure they can operate forklifts safely.
  • Conducting refresher courses:
     Providing refresher training to certified operators as needed, or as required by regulatory standards.
  • Performing equipment checks:
     Training operators on pre-operation vehicle checks and the proper maintenance of forklifts.

Essential skills and qualifications

To perform both roles effectively, an individual typically needs a combination of general and specific qualifications.

  • Certifications:
     Professional certifications, such as a Certified HRDC Trainer and a Registered OSH Coordinator, are often required.
  • Knowledge of regulations:
     In-depth knowledge of local and national OSH regulations, such as those set by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) or OSHA.
  • Communication skills:
     Strong communication and training skills are essential for delivering effective and engaging safety instruction.
  • Observational skills:
     A keen eye for detail is necessary for conducting effective safety inspections and identifying potential risks.
  • Experience:
     Previous experience in safety management or a related field is typically a prerequisite.
