Safety and Health Officer (SHO) is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring company health and safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with OSHA regulations. The role involves conducting risk assessments, promoting safety awareness, investigating incidents, and maintaining records to enhance workplace health and safety culture.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) programs and policies, and ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations, industry standards and procedures.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the workplace.
  • Conduct and deliver safety training and induction programs for employees and promote safe work practices.
  • Developing, updating, and enforcing safety policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Planning on emergency response procedures, including evacuation plans and first aid protocols. Provide emergency response support and first aid when needed.
  • Liaise with external agencies (e.g., OSHA, fire department) as necessary.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure adherence to safety standards.
  • Maintaining accurate records of safety training, incidents, inspections for management review.
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in safety practices and procedures to enhance workplace safety.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certification OSHA is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience (2+ years) in a similar role, ideally within shipbuilding industry.
  • Excellent communication and training skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
