IT Project Manager

What you'll do:

As an IT Project Manager/Senior IT Project Manager in banking, you will be entrusted with managing complex technology projects from inception through completion. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating closely with stakeholders to define project goals and deliverables that align with both business needs and regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for developing comprehensive plans that cover budgeting, resource management, risk assessment, and compliance tracking. By coordinating efforts between internal teams, external vendors, regulators, and other partners, you will ensure each initiative progresses smoothly towards its objectives. • Lead end-to-end delivery of IT projects by planning, executing, monitoring, and closing initiatives in alignment with business objectives.
• Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and success metrics through close collaboration with business stakeholders across banking and insurance domains.
• Develop detailed project plans including budgets, resource allocation strategies, timelines, and risk registers to ensure smooth execution.
• Ensure strict compliance with IT governance frameworks, software development lifecycle policies, cybersecurity protocols, and regulatory standards such as BNM requirements.
• Identify potential risks early on; manage mitigation strategies proactively while resolving issues in a considerate manner for all involved parties.
• Coordinate effectively with internal teams, external vendors, regulators, and other partners to guarantee successful project outcomes.
• Lead user acceptance testing (UAT), deployment planning activities, and post-implementation reviews to ensure seamless transitions for new systems or enhancements.
• Deliver timely updates on project status to the Project Management Office (PMO) and key stakeholders through clear communication channels.
• For Senior Managers: Oversee multiple concurrent projects or large-scale transformation programmes impacting several business units within the organisation.
• Provide strategic direction for IT transformation initiatives; mentor junior project managers; drive vendor negotiations; manage contracts; allocate resources optimally; lead executive steering committee updates at CXO level.

• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in IT project management within banking, insurance or financial services sectors for manager-level candidates; 8-12+ years for senior manager-level candidates overseeing large-scale cross-functional initiatives.
• Proven track record in system implementation projects including regulatory enhancements, digital platform launches or core system migrations relevant to financial services.
• Demonstrated ability to engage stakeholders at all levels-internal teams as well as external auditors/regulators-with empathy and effective communication skills.
• Experience managing portfolios or programmes that impact multiple business units within a complex organisational structure.
• Strong leadership presence combined with a nurturing approach when mentoring junior team members or guiding cross-functional groups toward shared goals.
• Expertise in budget management practices including vendor negotiations and contract administration for optimal resource allocation across multiple projects.
• Comprehensive understanding of risk management principles applied thoughtfully throughout the project lifecycle-from identification through resolution.
• Familiarity with core banking/insurance platforms as well as digital channels such as mobile apps; experience with regulatory compliance projects (BNM/IFRS17/AML), data migration/cloud integration/API enablement/cybersecurity/infrastructure transformation is highly desirable.
• Certified PMP/PRINCE2/Agile credentials are preferred but not mandatory if equivalent experience can be demonstrated through past achievements.
