**Location**: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in the Global Support Centre***

**Summary
**The Intern, Communications and Outreach within the Global Communications Team will play a

supporting role to the Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement to

engage effectively through external communications, particularly thought leadership for social

media, blog articles, media opportunities, and high-profile events to raise the profile and influence

of the World Scout Movement.

This position requires a creative communicator with excellent interpersonal and organisational

skills to work closely with the Global Communications Team and WOSM’s Secretary General to

develop and implement communication strategies that enhance the visibility and influence of

Scouting on a global scale, while also increasing the profile of Scouts as leaders in youth

mobilization, education, skills development, innovation, leadership, climate action and digital

transformation.

The role offers a unique learning opportunity by working closely with the Secretary General and

staff across the World Scout Bureau, particularly in communications and external engagement.

**Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of the Intern, Communications and Outreach are to:

- **Strategic Communications**:Collaborate with the Secretary General and other

stakeholders to develop and implement communication strategies aligned with the Scout

Movement’s priorities and vision with a focus on external engagements.
- **Social Media**:Collaborate with the Social Media Coordinator to create and implement

content plans, messaging and visuals for thought leadership engagement across LinkedIn,

Twitter and Threads to amplify WOSM’s leadership voices.
- **Thought Leadership and Media Relations**:Identify and produce opportunities for

thought leadership, and support media relations to secure coverage for WOSM leadership.
- **Event Communications**: Identify opportunities for the the Secretary General to engage

in high-profile external events related to education, innovation, climate action and

sustainable development to maximise exposure for Scouting. Provide communications

support, such as writing speeches and blog posts, preparing video messages, supporting

media coverage, preparing promotional materials, and managing communications for

keynotes, panels and other speaking opportunities.
- **Trend Monitoring and Analysis**: Monitor and analyse trends within the fields of youth

development, education and sustainable development to identity opportunities to speak

out and position World Scouting as a leading voice on key issues.
- **Stakeholder Engagement**:Collaborate with key stakeholders, including National Scout

Organizations, partners, and external agencies, to ensure effective communication and

collaboration that enhance World Scouting’s visibility and influence.
- Contribute as an active member of the Global Communications Team and work closely with

the Executive Office of the Secretary General.

**Job Requirements**

**Qualifications and skills**
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Political Science or

equivalent experience.
- Experience in communications or public relations in a non-profit or international

organisation is an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (additional language skills are an

asset).
- Ability to develop and implement communication plans and content creation across various

channels, with a particular focus on LinkedIn, Twitter and Threads.
- Proficiency in digital communication tools, social media platforms, and content

management systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and

collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Event management and media relations experience is an asset.
- Strong organisation and time management skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage

multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of the Scout Movement mission, vision and values is desirable.

**Personal Qualities**
- Detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaborate with

team members.
- Experience working in an international or multicultural context is an asset.
- Strong professionalism and work ethic who is proactive, solutions-oriented and can think

outside the box.
- Clear communications skills and ability to articulate ideas to others.
- Capable of working with staff, interns, volunteers and partners at Regional and World

levels of Scouting and in the international NGO and UN community.
