About the Role

A Junior Sous Chef is a middle-level kitchen management role, supporting the Sous Chef (or Head Chef) in operations. Here are typical responsibilities & required skills:
**Responsibilities**:

- Assist the Sous or Head Chef in overseeing day-to-day kitchen operations, especially during service.
- Supervise kitchen staff: assign tasks, provide training and coaching for junior cooks, ensure performance & standards.
- Ensure quality, consistency, and presentation of dishes are up to the restaurant’s/hotel’s standards.
- Monitor food safety, hygiene, and sanitation practices; ensure compliance with health department / internal policies.
- Help in menu planning & development: testing new dishes, suggesting improvements.
- Manage inventory: ordering supplies, checking stock, minimizing wastage.
- Control food cost, portioning, and yield to stay within budget.
- Assist with scheduling shifts, coordinating with other departments (F&B, events) when needed.
- Step in to manage operations in the absence of Sous/Head Chef.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety in the kitchen.

Skills / Qualifications
- Training in culinary arts, or relevant experience (often 2-5 years in similar roles).
- Good leadership & communication skills.
- Solid cooking techniques across multiple cuisines (depending on the establishment).
- Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen hygiene.
- Ability to work under pressure, especially during busy service periods.
- Attention to detail (taste, presentation, consistency).
- Good sense of timing, coordination, teamwork.
- Some roles may require flexibility in hours (nights, weekends, holidays) and ability to stand long hours.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: RM3,400.00 - RM4,000.00 per month
