The Mechanical Technician is responsible for performing mechanical repair, troubleshooting, maintenance, and inspection of railway and locomotive equipment both in the workshop and at field locations. The role involves ensuring reliability, safety compliance, and smooth operations of rail systems through high-quality service and timely repair work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical servicing, corrective repair, and scheduled maintenance on locomotives and rolling stock.
  • Repair and maintain bogies, underframe components, traction systems, couplers, suspension systems, braking components, and gear assemblies.
  • Conduct mechanical adjustments, component replacements, and alignments as per technical standards.
  • Support overhaul work for engines, compressors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults, abnormal noise, vibration issues, and equipment failures.
  • Use diagnostic tools, gauges, measuring instruments, and onboard systems to identify problems.
  • Recommend corrective actions and escalate complex issues to engineers.
  • Attend breakdowns and emergency call-outs at railway depots, stations, or trackside locations.
  • Perform on-site repairs and restoration of locomotive/rolling stock systems to minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate with operations teams to ensure safe movement of trains during repair work.

Requirements

  • Certificate/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Minimum 1–3 years of mechanical maintenance experience (railway, heavy machinery, automotive, aviation, or industrial equipment preferred).
  • Experience in locomotive or rolling stock maintenance is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems: brakes, engines, gear systems, pneumatic & hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and technical manuals.
  • Skilled in using mechanical tools, gauges, micrometers, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Understanding of safety procedures for high-risk railway environments.
  • Work in workshop, depot, or on-site at rail yards and trackside areas.
  • Physically demanding environment with exposure to noise, oil, grease, and heavy equipment.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: RM1, RM2,500.00 per month
