Technical Engineer

About the role

As a Technical Engineer - Vision/Mechanical/Electrical at Codetrace Sdn Bhd, you will play a crucial role in the development and implementation of cutting-edge vision systems, mechanical and electrical engineering solutions. This full-time position is based in Shah Alam, Selangor or Penang, and will involve working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative products and services.

What you'll be doing

1. Machine Vision & Automation

• Design, develop, and implement machine vision systems for inspection, measurement, and defect detection.
• Configure and program vision tools (e.g., Cognex, Keyence, Halcon, OpenCV) for real-time quality control.
• Integrate vision systems with PLCs, robots, and MES for seamless operation.
• Conduct validation tests, analyze captured data, and fine-tune algorithms for optimal accuracy and repeatability.

2. Mechanical Engineering

• Design and develop mechanical components, jigs, and fixtures for automated systems using CAD tools (SolidWorks/AutoCAD).
• Support system assembly, alignment, and mechanical troubleshooting.
• Conduct tolerance analysis, material selection, and preventive maintenance planning.
• Collaborate with vendors and fabricators to ensure timely and precise fabrication of mechanical parts.

3. Electrical & Control Engineering

• Design and implement electrical control systems including panel layout, wiring, and component selection.
• Develop and troubleshoot PLC/HMI/SCADA programs (e.g., Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi, Allen-Bradley).
• Ensure compliance with safety standards (e.g., IEC, OSHA) and company electrical design guidelines.
• Support installation, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical and automation systems.

4. Cross-functional Responsibilities

• Participate in system integration, FAT/SAT, and project documentation (BOMs, drawings, test reports).
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and root cause analysis for equipment downtime.
• Collaborate closely with production, QA, and R&D teams to ensure system reliability and process efficiency.
• Train production or maintenance teams on system operation and troubleshooting.
• Factory or lab-based role with occasional travel for system commissioning and support.
• Involves hands-on work with machinery, electrical panels, and automation equipment.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related Engineering discipline.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in industrial automation, machine vision, or system integration.
• Fresh graduates are welcome to apply. Remuneration package commensurate with experience.
• Hands-on experience with CAD design, PLC programming, or vision system software preferred.
• Familiar with sensors, actuators, motion systems, and industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, etc.).
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
• Experience in robotics, motion control, or AI-based vision systems.
• Knowledge of Python, C++, or MATLAB for vision or control algorithm development.
• Good communication and teamwork skills; able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
