Job Overview:

Lead the management and modernization of a complex on-premise database environment, with accountability for availability, recoverability, performance, and technical debt reduction across MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and MSSQL. This role Is responsible for ensuring high availability (DR), executing legacy migrations, implementing observability through Prometheus/Grafana and architecting future NoSQL solutions (MongoDB/DynamoDB)

Your work life:

  • Manage and optimize on-premise MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and MSSQL database environments to ensure high performance and availability.
  • Lead phased upgrades of legacy MySQL 5.x databases to supported versions (e.g. 8.x), and establish a sustainable 2–3 year version lifecycle strategy.
  • Design and maintain Disaster Recovery (DR) setups and high-availability clusters (e.g., Galera, Group Replication).
  • Implement and own database observability using Prometheus and Grafana, including dashboards, alerting thresholds, and performance baselines.
  • Collaborate with the Platform team to plan infrastructure scalability, including CPU/RAM sizing and storage expansion for database servers.
  • Automate database operations, schema changes, and repeatable deployments using Git-based CI/CD pipelines, balancing safety, auditability, and speed.
  • Align with Data Engineering teams to optimize ETL processes for data movement into the GCP Datalake.

To be considered, you'll need:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in on-premise Database Administration, ideally in complex or multi-platform environments.
  • Expertise in MySQL and MariaDB, with additional proficiency in PostgreSQL and MSSQL.
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale database upgrades and complex migration projects.
  • Strong knowledge of database security, audit logs, and access control via manual processes or Vault.
  • Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, and Git for automation and observability.
  • Deep understanding of query optimization, indexing strategies, and table design reviews with development teams.
  • Familiarity with NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB or DynamoDB, with the ability to contribute to future platform strategy and standards.
  • Ability to make and defend technical decisions balancing availability, risk, and delivery speed.
