We are assisting our client, a leading private higher education institution in Malaysia with strong ties to Singapore, to hire an Assistant HR Manager. The institution provides a wide range of academic programmes and professional courses aimed at developing industry-ready graduates. With campuses in Johor and close collaboration with its Singapore headquarters, the institution continues to expand its footprint in the region by offering quality education with a global perspective.

To support this growth, we are seeking an experienced and committed Assistant HR Manager to manage HR operations locally in Johor and to collaborate with the Singapore HR team. The role comes with support from a Junior HR Executive locally, and will also involve close coordination with counterparts in Singapore and China.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full spectrum of HR functions including recruitment & onboarding, performance management, compensation & benefits, learning & development, and employee engagement.
  • Keep HR principles, policies, and procedures aligned with current market practices to drive business competitiveness and retain talent.
  • Ensure compliance with local employment laws and regulations, keeping abreast of legislative updates.
  • Analyse HR data to provide insights for management decision-making.
  • Promote HR digitalisation, enabling managers and staff to self-serve on operational matters.
  • Support regional campuses on HR matters, including recruitment, payroll, and policy review.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, Business, or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant HR experience with proven track record in supporting business goals.
  • Strong knowledge of Malaysian employment laws, payroll, and HR best practices.
  • Fluent in Chinese to liaise with China's campus stakeholders
  • Leadership experience in managing a small HR team is an advantage.
  • Analytical, data-driven, and business-minded problem solver.
  • Effective communicator with strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Recognized as a people-oriented leader with strong interpersonal skills.
