The Material Planner is responsible for ensuring that all materials required for production are available on time, in the correct quantities, and at the optimal cost. This role involves coordinating with suppliers, monitoring inventory levels, analyzing material requirements, and supporting smooth production flow to meet customer demand and company objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Material Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop and maintain the material requirement plan (MRP) based on production schedules and sales forecasts.
  • Ensure timely availability of raw materials, components, and packaging materials to avoid production delays.
  • Review and adjust planning parameters such as lead time, safety stock, and order quantity.

2. Procurement Coordination

  • Liaise with the purchasing team to issue purchase requisitions or orders according to production needs.
  • Follow up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and resolve any material shortages or delays.
  • Work closely with vendors to improve delivery performance and optimize inventory levels.

3. Inventory Management

  • Monitor inventory levels and initiate replenishment when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of material usage, stock balances, and incoming deliveries.
  • Identify obsolete, slow-moving, or excess inventory and take corrective actions.

4. Production & Cross-functional Support

  • Collaborate with production, warehouse, and quality teams to ensure materials meet specifications and timelines.
  • Support new product introductions (NPI) by coordinating material availability for trial or pilot runs.
  • Assist in resolving material-related issues that could impact production schedules.

5. Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare material status reports, shortage lists, and forecast accuracy reports.
  • Analyze material consumption trends and provide data-driven recommendations for improvement.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance planning efficiency and cost control.
