**Purpose of Job**
WWF Malaysia’s Conservation Department runs various landscape programmes divided by region, a marine programmes and thematic programmes. The landscape and marine programmes seek to address a range of issues relating to ecosystems and species. There are also dedicated programmes on Education for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Markets. A cross cutting Policy and Climate Change Unit supports all the programmes in national level policy interventions. A climate strategy is being formulated to steer and direct the organisation’s climate action in a coherent and consistent manner.
The WWF Network has nine focus work areas called practices. WWF Malaysia is involved in all of them, one of which is the Climate and Energy Practice.
Under the supervision of the Head of Policy and Climate Change, the incumbent will be engaged in the delivery of the following:
- climate change adaptation work in line with the Climate Strategy and WWF Malaysia’s Strategy 2021-2030 (or its revised version or future Strategies);
- WWF global Network’s Climate and Energy Practice Strategy (or its revised versions or future Strategies); and
- Climate change adaptation related aspects in the other Global Practice Strategies and efforts towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) where relevant.
The incumbent, as a staff of the Conservation Department, is expected to assist the Head of Policy and Climate Change by providing technical direction and guidance to internal staff, engaging with the network, and supporting engagements with external stakeholders in line with the mission of WWF.
**Key Outputs**
1. Preparing and implementing a plan of action to ensure that all WWF Malaysia’s conservation efforts are climate smart and that climate risk is successfully embedded into all activities as relevant. The plan should capture potential synergies between different programmes in reducing climate risk to achieve greater impact and efficiency in delivery.
2. Preparing reports as needed of WWF Malaysia’s contributions towards achieving the Climate and Energy Practice’s (CEP) adaptation outcome and climate related outcomes with other practices using where practicable, the SDG framework.
3. Supporting the preparation of position papers, policy interventions, press releases, presentations and other forms of advocacy to encourage nature based solutions / ecosystems based approaches in climate adaptation and resilience building, as well as climate mitigation.
**Major Activities**
1. Providing technical support to other programmes/initiatives in their efforts to incorporate climate risk into their conservation strategies to develop climate smart outcomes.
2. Supporting the implementation of climate adaptation strategies by identifying available methods, setting indicators, disseminating information in a timely manner, and also working closely with colleagues in developing proposals and other measures in strategy implementation.
3. Developing funding proposals to advance climate change projects for WWF Malaysia, especially relating to climate adaptation.
4. Acting as the key liaison on climate change adaptation for WWF Malaysia with the network.
5. Enable active and timely participation in the Climate and Energy Practice (CEP) as requested by the CEP Focal Point, including acting as WWF Malaysia’s representative as requested.
6. Attending internal and external meetings/workshops/conferences to provide technical support or represent WWF Malaysia as requested.
7. Regular participation in the Policy and Climate Change Division meeting.
8. Undertaking other work as assigned by the Head of Policy and Climate Change who is also the CEP Focal Point, Focal Point for the Malaysian Climate Change Group and representative on the CSO-SDG Alliance in relation to achieving effective climate outcomes.
**Specifications**
1. University degree, relating to climate change, environmental sciences, environmental management with a climate change focus or environmental sustainability.
2. Working experience in implementing nature based solutions to address climate change and/or SDGs is an advantage.
3. Knowledge of and commitment to the issues of climate change and conservation in Malaysia.
4. Excellent writing and speaking skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
5. Computer literate and have the ability to use appropriate technology for presentation to partners, stakeholders and potential donors.
6. Proven exposure to or experience of working with government is an advantage.
7. Communication skills and experience in using social media for awareness raising and advocacy are an added advantage.
8. Possess a calm temperament, with a methodical and meticulous approach to work.
9. Good interpersonal skills, innovative thinking, versatile ability to work in a team and work independently.
