The Chief Steward oversees the operations of the stewarding department, ensuring the cleanliness, maintenance, and sanitation of all food and beverage areas, including kitchens and service areas. They are responsible for managing a team of stewards, maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- **Team Management**:
- Recruit, train, and supervise stewarding staff.
- Schedule shifts and allocate tasks to ensure coverage and efficient workflow.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback.
- Foster a positive and productive work environment.
- **Operational Management**:
- Oversee the cleaning and sanitation of kitchens, food preparation areas, and other related facilities.
- Ensure all equipment is cleaned, maintained, and stored properly.
- Coordinate with other departments, such as the culinary and banquet teams, to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Monitor and control inventory levels of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
- Implement and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for stewarding operations.
- **Compliance and Safety**:
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections to maintain hygiene standards.
- Address and resolve any sanitation issues promptly.
- Ensure the safe handling and storage of chemicals and cleaning agents.
- Implement safety training programs for staff.
- **Budget and Cost Control**:
- Prepare and manage the stewarding department budget.
- Monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintain records of supplies and equipment purchases.
- Negotiate with suppliers for the best prices and quality of products.
- **Reporting and Documentation**:
- Maintain accurate records of inventory, breakages, and cleaning schedules.
- Prepare reports on department activities, expenses, and performance metrics.
- Ensure all documentation is up-to-date and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
